OMG THANK YOU
So many how-to-ship vids on YouTube, including OFFICIAL ONES FROM EBAY.
NONE of them explain the options clearly like you do it here. ALL of them omit at least one critical detail. WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE? WHY IS THERE SUCH EVIL???
Anyway thanks for the vid
Wanted to add a comment regarding the use of USPS Flat Rate boxes and weight limits. On the Medium and Large boxes, it notes "One Rate * Any Weight", HOWEVER, there is a weight limit of 70 lbs for domestic and 20 lbs for international shipments. I have no plans to ship bars of gold to anyone in the near future, but for those that are shipping heavy items, take note of these limits.
Isn't it sad in 2019 that you want to buy a certain item for let's say $12.00. Then you see that everyone wants about $10 to $15 to ship it. I've noticed more and more on ebay recently that when I search for an item, again, let's say it usually runs about $12 but I can't find it in my area and I have to order it. I see that it is listed for $2.00 Wow! but then you look down and they want $18 for shipping and handling. I think this new scheme on price is outrageous. I don't buy of course but there are still a few things I want online that aren't local and shipping is ridiculous. One items is $26 and they want $14 to ship it. Pass.
Thank you so much for your video is very very helpful I learned a lot about shipping and handling that I didn't know I did already know a little bit but now I no more thank you for the info it's great that you're sharing your knowledge with others
i saw you replied to my comment but cannot find it. you said 7.55 is too much for a 15$ item(padded flat rate envelope). thats true, sometimes. i am a high volume seller vs high margin. i tried higher prices and sold MUCH less, and i mean i literally lsot 90% of my sales overnight by raising from 19.99 to 21.99. at this price(19.99) it is still worth it because i now ship 5-6 per day, vs 1 ever couple days. i make more than i would. 19.99 is my lowest option though so, it only gets better from there.
Time for an update shipping rates are much higher now. $7.55 priority. I was hoping you knew some secret I didn’t already know. We need an option for things that range in the $15-$20 range and weigh just over a pound.
Wow. What a great channel your running. I just sold a token for $5.00 free shipping. Sent through eBay and PayPal and paid $3.09 USPS first class in small padded envelope weight .45 oz. I could have put in in a regular envelope and put a stamp on it. Do you ever do this? Thanks. Will try to find you on Facebook.
I wanted to sell the beaded jewelries i made(mostly rings). I don't know about mailing them and im thinking just using those envelopes you use for letters. They weigh less i supposed but still don't know anything about mailing them. Got any tips for me?
This was really a great tutorial! Thanks RSF! Be advised viewer...Rates have gone up quite a bit since this video. And early 2019 rates changed again...they are much higher. In person your post office counter transaction costs will be $7.90 small flat, $14.35 for both medium Flats/the shirt/and the square box, $19.95 for large flat, and now $8.00 for padded flat pouch.
These are lessons this newbie has learned: 1. When using online services such as Ebay to buy your postage you will get a discount, but they do charge you for the convenience/so your margin of saving is not what you think. 2. Flat rate boxes appear the same as regular priority. Look diligently for the FLAT RATE title on your box. 3. Never alter a flat rate box shape. (they will charge for that sin, and your recipient may have to pay the difference that = bad rating). 4. If you know for sure a package is going priority, you can alter the shape of a regular branded priority box. Cut it down, tape two together/you can manipulate any priority package to fit your needs. 5. If you are uncertain, and think parcel post or first class may be the cheaper option, arrive with a plain box/packaging. If priority service deems the cheaper or same they will attach priority branded tape on your plain box and upgrade you to that faster service. 6. If however you put your item in priority box and learn it is cheaper to go parcel or first class, you can't go the lesser priced option in that branded priority box- unless you remove it from priority branded packaging and put it in a plain brown box/envelope. Hope that helps newbies. : )
You cant "update" a video on youtube, you just have to make new videos and upload them as things change... which I have done. I uploaded 1 video before January about the upcoming increase in price, and one video in January showing the new prices etc.. thanks!
USPS First Class is 13 Oz. or under. Where did you see / hear that it goes up to 15 Oz?
I wish we still had the prices for shipping that you mentioned! Prices going up AGAIN!! Also, you should have mentioned that sellers can charge a Handling Fee. I do that if I price something low. Gotta makes a couple of bucks!
I have a shipping question that maybe you can help me out with. When I list an item on ebay, say shoes, when I click the Calculate Shipping, it always has 3 rates, and it always picks the highest. The shoes start out at 7.40, 7.80 & 10.80, and it always picks the highest one, so the customer sees the highest price, and that is always to Los Angeles. What happens if the person is in the next state, will Ebay recalculate the Shipping ? I have tried to set the shipping as location, but it still has the higher rate up, what to do. I am a new Ebay Seller. Can ya help a guy out Please? Thank you very much.
In the past I used to use USPS for almost all my shipping but that last couple years FedEx has gotten to the point where FedEx often... is less expensive.
And I save and reuse the Amazon Prime envelopes.
VERY good video!!
Is it always best to do delivery confirmation in case the customer claims they did not receive the item? Since I do not have a printer I would like to just write the address on the envelope and slap some stamps on it and let the mailman take care of it but of course packages get lost all the time. What do you recommend?
DO NOT USE THE FREE PRIORITY MAIL BOXES OR PADDED ENVELOPES AS PACKING MATERIAL. That is fraud, and it is a crime. The cost of the box is built into the shipping price. These materials are to be used ONLY for Priority Mail shipping. If the Post office finds that you stuffed your package with free Priority bubble envelopes, they will charge you the shipping fee for EACH encelope, and possibly prosecute you if you are a business doing this on a regular basis.
Very helpful and easy to grasp explanation! I've been hitting my head on the brick...figuratively speaking... to figure out this shipping puzzle, and now it is clear. Thank you so much!
P.S. I made a writing error in one of my previous posts about "junk drawers" which caused my post to become nonsensical. Sorry about it!
You have to order the boxes on USPS.com and they'll send them to you free. Shipments in the non-flat rate boxes are priced by weight, generally in 1-pound increments. Flat rate is good for heavy articles, but usually by weight is a better price.
I’m having problems with shipping fees. For example, I have beads that I would like to sell. Others list beads for 99cents with free shipping. The cheapest shipping I can get from eBay is $3.50. What am I doing wrong???
What about the labels themselves? What kind of printer do you use? What kind of sticky labels? Does your account get charged when you print it? I'm afraid you left out a whole other subject! Either that or I really am completely clueless. Thanks.
You didn't mention Media Mail--I was under the impression this was cheapest for heavy items like books? I've also heard it takes longer to get there...is this why you don't use it? Also, are prices on poly and padded mailers competitive? Do you recommend a certain company or brand that has it cheaper? Thanks for the video Casey!
First i gotta say thanks for explaining this item very well. I have been selling on eBay on a low to medium level for about 3 years now and understand it pretty well but shipping has always left me with questions. I pretty much do exactly that but always thought there might be a better or cheaper way, but i guess i am good. Your video was great, and didn't leave me with any questions. .....well actually just one. How comfortable is that chair? I don't know why but, I noticed it when you got up. thing is cool, i want one. do they sell em on eBay? lol -cmagic
@VersatileMindz909 @Rockstar Flipper
Rockstar is indeed a Commercial Plus customer because he ships 300 packages per month on average over the course of 12 months running, not fiscal. He gets 17% on Priority Mail (not flat). He would get 24% if he was using eBay Labels.
Flat Rate Priority is only 2.75%. First class, on the other hand, is upwards of 12%. Both of these rates are 10% higher using eBay Labels.
Hope you don't mind me answering the question Rockstar!!!!
Ebay gives top rated sellers a shipping discount. Has been that way for awhile actually. Im not sure of the percent but that sounds a little high I thought it was more like 5-10%. usually a $7.10 padded flat cost me $6.90. so $.20 off
these companies keep raising rates so some of what you covered has prob changed. I try to recycle boxes, padded envelopes & packing material. that stretchy saran wrap type stuff that goes around pallets in big box stores etc... makes great packing materiel esp for heavy items, If its off the pallet just grab it & throw it in your shopping carts the workers will thank you lol
Somehow I feel duped. I sent a measly HP inkjet packet in a lightweight padded envelope. They charged me over $3.00 when I dropped it off at the PO. I mean, it weighed hardly.. well... nothing! I don't get it. Very annoying. I buy it for 99 cents, I sell it on Ebay for $10.00 (shipped free to buyer), and expected to only pay no more than say, $2.00. So after Ebay fees, PayPal fees and shipping, I make very little on this item.
Sturm Reiter because it was first class which ranges from $2.66-$4.76 depending on how many ounces 1-16oz. at the Usps it’s a little more expensive. Like $3.05-$4.96. The first prices are printed through eBay which gives a discount. Always print that way. But the $3 you paid is about right. Can’t ship anything less expensive first class
