After being in the resell hustle for 15+ years, its nice to still be able to find like-minded people who can teach this old dog a new trick or two. Greetings from Austin TX.....look forward to watching your vids.
About pricing at thrift stores. I worked for 1 day at a thrift store 20 years ago, and they put us vols on sorting. They have massive volume. Daily they sort easily 50x the goods you have there. The method is blow and go, just get this massive mountain from this side to that side in the backroom, with a price tag, then floor staff repeats the drill. That explains why you see things like massive price inequities, or like my trip last week, a rack of Womens jeans in Mens. At URBAN OUTFITTERS they have a SKU, an assigned price, and limited models, while GW or SA has EVERYTHING! in their backroom. Consequently staffers just low and blow prices to keep it moving, and be done with it.
The people that work at the Thrift stores watch these videos too... That's why them prices goin up. That and technology itself allowing managers to look up items before they put them out.. Happy hunting.. There will always be treasures!
I love how you call the bags, '"fanny packs", we call them Bum Bags in Australia. Fanny down here is what is referred to as a woman's V..... (fill in the blanks). I got heaps of flack when I moved from my home country of New Zealand to Australia, as we call a lot of things different things. The rivalry is hilarious. Am loving your videos :D :D
I found 2 Orvis items at the bins. One was vintage. I was so excited. People were looking but no one was picking up the good stuff. I will go back. So I paid 1.79 a pound. I will make about $70. You got great stuff. Love the music. My grandfather would listen to music like that when I was little on a radio in the kitchen. Brought back fond memories. Until next time, Leslye
Just wanted to say Yes Alli cut those buttons and embellishments. I had a bunch of St John not the JC Penny brand - very high end. cut the charms, button, and metal tags, coach purse disgusting... take the hang tag, TH or RL Rugby disgusting take the rubber buttons. Vtg dress Abilene buttons, I have seen mother of pearl cufflinks left on high end men's shirts. look up. chanel, 1 button 30+++ love thrift wars. I do it with my daughter. Also patches HOT right now. Hat tanked cut the patch out. you will be shocked and cheap shipping. many xxxooo
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this and seeing all of you together. You gave some great tips and had some fun doing it. I look forward to checking out your future videos. My one question is that you have SO much stuff, do you have a helper or two to help you get this stuff listed? Thank you again Ryan & Allie & Casey
Hi Ralli Roots, I was just thinking about how before I found your video's I got pulled into the world of drop shipping because I've always had an entrepreneur mind set, however I didn't have no success and it isn't what people make it out to be. But I have to say Reselling is a lot more fun, you get to interact with the products you sell, I'm not sure how to explain it, but do you agree? Also, I sniped on Ebay for the first time today and had great success, so my other question is, do you do this also?
Yeah drop shipping is 99.9% lies! lol. We always tell people not to get caught up in it. We definitely do ebay arbitrage. Usually buying for Amazon FBA. It can be very profitable if you find the right items :)
I really love this Video. You guys do such a great Job. And we as the viewing audience are learning a ton from the three of you. Keep them coming. Ryan and Alli should have a reselling meet up like the Casey had a couple of weeks ago. People would love to see you all. Again thanks
Oh man, I see Orvis frequently and have never looked it up. I will now. Thanks!
Casey is so right...adults buying the things they couldn't get when they were kids. I do it all the time!
Yes to the Guys of Ebay calendar! HAHAHA! Best idea ever!
As Always such a fun educational experience for me, I love you guys so much! My 3 favorite mentors, love love love your collaborations with each other and look forward to more, have a wonderful holiday weekend! I'm off to source, YEAH! Thanks for the continued inspiration!
Hey are you guys having any issues with your yard sale app today or yesterday ? Sorry to blow up your comment section but I just happen to think I can't get the damn thing to work I've tried deleting it and re-downloading it and it just isn't working for me I just wondered if you guys were having the same issue
No, honestly Ali I have thought about the buttons question . I found these really cool HarleyD buttons on this shirt. They all lookedLike miniature tires with the HD logo on each one. The shirt it self was kind of ugly and I seriously wondered how much the buttons would go for! I guess it's something to think about if you have a shirt that has a stain on it or something
Hi Ralli Roots, I've got a suggestion and idea I come up with since watching your two thrift war videos. My idea is that next time you should both go to the same Thrift store as each other, as it would make it more interesting and equally fair Because that way having two resellers at the same store would make it more competitive. Also, as you know doing the same store will make it more fair, as one can get a better store than another. Let me know what you think
Thank you when I saw how much they were asking at the yard sale and saw on eBay literally died on the inside. It was an elderly lady and her grandson shoe that he outgrew. They wanted five but me just smiling and being nice got it for three🙈! I am expanding outside of learning about clothing now and coffee machines now learning about shoes and handbags:).
Thanks for your vids. We are 6 year sellers on eBay and more. We appreciate your vids and Casey's. If you know where we can get decent wholesale suppliers let us know. I have lot's now and the local area here is too small.
It was stamped. we just moved to a very small town in tennessee. and things do move at a snails pace. so we are learning to just go down to the town square to take care of business. lol, but we love it here. this week we are in Florida. just might have to hit up one of our favorite shops. coco beach thrift store. would love to run into fellow Thrifted. take care! leslye.
Awesome haul guys. Quick question. What do you use for accounting? I've been using Godaddy bookkeeping but I've out grown it. I like that it automatically imports sales from ebay and amazon but there is nothing there for inventory management or profit per item. What do you guys find that works best for you? Thanks! Also, thanks for the great content. I really enjoy watching and l've learned a lot.
I'm 62 years old. As a kid , we had a button jar. We cut buttons off everything. We reused the material for other projects in the house. My mother was from Mississippi and they were dirt poor. She reused everything. So, buttons were reused for clothes she made. I had a button jar until recently.
What I do with items that I know will need to go Smartpost is to put them up free shipping an then check the "alaska, hawaii, puerto rico" box and put an extra $20 on those areas. Rarely will someone pay that, so it generally at least stays in the continental US and can go smartpost at least.
I have noticed those prices in Goodwills here in St Pete. Sad to see the Army goinng in that direction. That's why these videos are so good as there are slimmer margins for us beginners. Which we had fixed pricinng like Luke in NC.
hello, first time watching your videos, educational and entertaining which is good. can you make a video about taxes how to file and write off expenses? and do you pay taxes when you buy the stuff? just in general taxes advice.
Love the video. On the hockey stuff, I agree with Casey on the top three selling teams but really all NHL hockey teams clothing has the potential of being good sellers. I'm from St Louis and I sell and buy Blues hockey stuff all the time. Las Vegas has a new hockey team, The Vegas Golden Knights. Their stuff has the potential to be very popular for their inaugural year.
Yey! Ralli and Rockstar, greatly respect and admire you guys! Enjoyed this rematch.
I'm from California but probably 9 out of 10 of my solds do not go to California. A lot go to Virginia, Florida, and other East coast states. So I feel your pain when it comes to shipping! :) Learned new brands from this video! Thank you!! :)
We're lucky here in the Smokey Mountain area our Salvo is on a standard pricing system, every clothing item is $3 ea. And all our local thrift stores do the colored tag system where all the clothing is color coded and they pick a different color each week to be half off. We even have one I hit up often that has all adult clothing for .79 each. You guys should totally come here on a vacation/sourcing trip! It's the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area, where Dollywood is located. One of the hottest vacation spots in the country. If you guys ever come this way, hit me up. I can get you free tickets to pretty much everything!
Adam Ham haha that's awesome! We actually LOVE that area so we may just take you up on that offer! Especially seeing as the thrifting is so affordable there(we can pay for our vacation) and we'll trade you a calendar for some tickets 😂
Just a quick comment about the buttons, my Grandmother used to cut the buttons off of any clothing that she was trowing away, with the size of her family, it had to be pretty bad to get thrown out.she had 11 children, 8 girls, my dad's family had 9 children and I am the eldest of 9, so no clothing was thrown away unless it absolutely had to be.
really like the videos and the idea of 'thrift wars'.
You guys were so smart to get a warehouse space. I know some resellers who live like hoarders and can't find shiitake when it sells because they've got crapola piled up to the ceiling in their house!
Would you really cringe if I bought something heavy, considering I live in Seattle? 😁
How about a battle where you go on a not-50%-off day? Now that's a challenge!!
Drew Conway haha! Yeah we love our warehouse. Our house would be way tooo messy if we didn't have the space lol! Well worth it 😊 non 50% off day would be tough. We'd have to up the spending limit a little bit!
His name was Larry Dion. Very well known throughout the Keys. Super nice man. If you google Lawrence Dion you can find out about him and his life and businesses. His Quik Marts were sold after his death recently. They had the best fried chicken in the Keys!
Paula Dion Goodwill tags everything they get in a week one color. So everything that's donated this week would be red. Then next week everything donated will get tagged blue and so on. Then when those red items have been in the store for a few weeks, they become the color of the week. I think there are 6 colors that get rotated. So they don't change any tickets or as in my area, they just use colored plastic hang tags things. They still write the prices on the clothes in Sharpie type marker! So annoying. Btw, are you related to a Mr Dion that lived in Key West?
hey guess what?? prices are going up because of videos about reselling and everyone bragging how much they make off doing it. Nike did same thing a few years ago after they saw Jordan's on resale market. They jacked there price and cut middle man out.
Prices are going up and sales are declining. People are also not donating their nice shit anymore because they do it to help people out but when they come across these videos and realize its not helping the needy they stop donating. These videos were a terrible idea in so many ways. I wouldn't keep repeating this to everyone but everyone keeps complaining about slow sales and price increases
It's not the clothing donated that helps people out, it's the money made from selling them that goes to help people. Thrift stores or the people who donate don't care about who buys their items as long as they get sold. Heck one thrift store in our area caters to resellers and welcomes them with open arms because they know they can get large sells and take that money to feed those in need. Also, prices are only going up in the "Hot Zones" places where there are a lot of thrift store customers because the companies see the sales and know they can get more money in those areas. It has nothing to do with youtube videos or resellers. I'm lucky enough to live in an area where the thrift stores don't get the type of traffic like they do in FL so our prices are still .79 - 3.00 each depending on the store.
J Sapa that makes way more sense. Prices going up because costs are going up. We're definitely not arrogant enough to think that our YouTube vids are having enough impact to change the way these massive companies run their business. There will always be money to be made out there and there will always be people like us who want to share the wealth with others! 😊
I totally disagree with Mark. The world does not revolve around Youtube and youtube videos. I have many friends who do not watch youtube and have never heard of youtube. Three of my friends volunteer at thrift stores and they do not watch youtube. The friends I know who manage thrift stores don't change their prices because of youtube. They change their prices because the increase cost of rent, healthcare, payroll taxes, utilities, etc.
I want in on this garage sale wars, I am willing to battle anyone haha, I honestly think that would be the best way. Nice video and super sweet finds. I wish we had thrift stores like that in my area. I get all of my stuff from yard sales and estates sales, And via my estate liquidation business.
Lol it would be fun, Seeing that you guys mainly deal in clothing i would need to take it easy on you guys LOL because i mainly deal in antiques and collectibles haha. I have been reselling for about 15 years full time and i am only 30 years old, I have never worked for anyone or anybody but myself, I also have a youtube channel i just started lol Nothing like you guys though you and Alli rock i love the videos and excitement you guys bring to reselling. I am just about 45 mins north of Tampa in Gainesville,
