You can get a whole bunch of free bubble wrapping materials but just going to automotive body shops they're constantly ordering automotive parts and they throw away all their bubble wrapping believe me they throw a lot check them out. And go get it for free
This video contains some great information, but MAN is it hard to listen to. The stilted speech pattern of someone who is reading while speaking is exhausting. So many uh's, um's, pauses and forgetting what was being talked about.
Here's a great tip: Don't bother selling items for less than $10 if you care about your feedback. The cheapest buyers are the ones that leave negative feedback or neutrals without contacting the buyer. I speak from experience.
YOU ARE DEAD WRONG ON #9. - I disagree with your advice on #9. - PRIORITY MAIL IS AUTOMATICALLY INSURED for $50 - Don't always ship an item using the cheapest method when your buyer is paying for shipping. The best reason to ship an item by Priority mail instead of 1st class is that it's automatically insured with Priority mail. If you ship a $50 item by 1st class mail and it's lost or damaged, you (seller) are out $50 plus shipping. If it's shipped by Priority Mail, you're covered. Choose media mail over 1st class when possible (for books, LPs, CDs, computer software, etc. only). Choose 1st class mail over Priority if you can afford to lose your money. Also, USPS Priority mail packaging is free, boxes used to ship by 1st class will cost the buyer money. Also, FEDEX Smartpost is good in some cases, but it's slow, not automatically insured and package prices are always estimated, then you're charged later.
Otherwise, great advice!
Hi, serious question I REALLY need answered, I've been on for years, I have thousands of items listed but I always offer free shipping & no returns. ( I do always allow returns) I want to change to 30 day return but how do I at least cover the cost of shipping there and back so I'm not the one taking the hit on cost ( or is this unavoidable?) Thanks in advance
You have to increase the price.. or you have to charge shipping. . if you wanna do both free shipping and returns then you have to up the price.. but if you mess up an order , then its a cost of doing business
dear rock star.
please advise, if you can.
sent an item to action and sold a shit for $ 5. I paid $5 at thrift store.
plus I do free shipping. in the of the day , I lost 6 dollars.
what you would do?
what did I do wrong?
thanks in advance
I have to stand up for the "no returns" people-lol- you said we probably don't feel too good about our product anyway-- actually it is the OPPOSITE of that! I'm not trying to swindle anyone- I'm trying to avoid being swindled myself! If i sell a new with tags item and they remove the tags and try it on and return it the value has plummeted. If I sell shoes and they wear them for 30 days and the before "nice hardly damaged soles" are now scuffed and worn and the inside padding stained, etc. that value decreases. If I send CLEAN items and they return dirty or smelly from them being WORN for 30 days (ordered them to wear to a party or vacation or event, etc) or they were stored in a smokers home (mine is smoke free) and I get them back with smoke smell- it lessens the value- period. I'm one of those who WASH things before sending..i take a miillion pictures, list a million measurements, etc. I'm overly crazy about disclosing things about the item, etc. so I feel like if you want to ignore the pictures and the measurements and then I get the item back devalued....how is that a good thing on my end? sigh. I'm sure there is recourses for sellers in abuse situations but who wants to go through all that for clothes? That's what they are counting on. I KNOW that people say you have to to make sales and I understand the buyers perspective...I just wanted to explain at least this buyers reasonings for not offering returns so its not just "we don't feel good about the product"....it's because I DO and I want to keep it that way that I don't. I value your advice so I might have to reconsider though and just take the loss when it comes. Thanks for the video--VERY HELPFUL. :)
No. Any sales made between 3am friday EST-monday 3am EST, ships Monday. Friday/saturday/sunday and Monday morning EARLY before 3am all ship Monday. after 3am Monday ships Tuesday as usual. if it sells at 2:59am friday morning EST, it ships friday
I am skipping way ahead. I still have to research shipping prices. I have so much trouble taking the plunge, because I keep doing too much research. Can you use a different name on eBay than your email and have sales run through your corporation instead of a personal bank account?
This may be a silly question lol but do you recommend that everything we offer free shipping on everything we sell on Ebay? I am currently selling some books and moving into other areas but it seems to be hard to make money with books if you offer free shipping
Okay, I was originally doing free shipping on everything but it seems like the average profit on a book may be a dollar because of how the actual thrift store sellers how priced their books. I was originally just doing books because they did not take up much space. I live in a house with roommates, so limited space is a problem. I have recently started buying jeans and I will buy some ties tomorrow to put up on my store. I'm hoping those will generate some good profit margins.
You have to do what works for you. It can be hard to make money on ANYTHING if you offer free shipping and don't add it into the selling price...why just books? What if someone sells a microwave with free shipping? They will lose out if they don't calculate shipping add it into the price. Thats the whole thing with doing free shipping, you have to offset. Its either $15 + $5 shipping or $20 free shipping, same thing.
I hope someone will see and give me good advice for this. I am a small time seller. I just began 45 days ago. I sell mostly new with box shoes, some lightly used, but nice quality products. Ones I personally wear and endorse! When I began obviously limits were an issue so I made 3 eBay pages, showgirls shoes1957, showgirlsshoes2-4, showgirlsshoes3, and my original site I originally purchased on 2ndblondechild. I have one of my sites up to 5000$ limit. Should I combine my items into the one store or risk loosing watchers and keep them on separate pages?? When is the best time to start a store, I'm not selling heavy at this point, my products are more fall-winter oriented so hoping to see an increase. Any suggestions, thanks!
Thanks u so much. I was consolidating as I noticed the bell on alert. I was always worried about how many views I have, but they are not followers so yeah how am I loosing anything? Now that I have a higher limit two are going. Thanks!
DON'T BUY BUBBLE WRAP if there is a Recycle Center in your area! I find tons of good, clean usable bubble wrap of all types as well as Styrofoam peanuts and clean boxes all for FREE! If you want to do the right thing drop five bucks or more in the donation box. Also look in the bins where people are dropping off their plastics and look for plastic crates! Two weeks ago I found FOUR perfectly good heavy duty crates at the local Sedona Recycle Center bins (Shout out: AWESOME HARD WORKING and FRIENDLY STAFF over there!) that I now use for storing my scrapped pewter.
Ship Tip: I get free Priority Mail boxes and wrap them in brown paper when shipping by another method. The small cube shaped boxes actually fit perfectly in the brown paper bags I get from Chinese take out so I save them too just for that.
Geni Paisley ... Dollar store plastic garbage bags works well !.... Your buyer will see that as 'Extra-Effort' taken in the care of their purchase(s) and will give them an extra reason to leave positive reviews on your profile ! Don't 'cut' those dollar store bags trying to 'Stretch' its usages, We already know that they're cheap in quality, But for a buck, You can't go wrong....Another tip...Try ordering those 'Priority Flat Rate' plastic bubble mailer envelopes online from the USPS...If you order a quantity of 10, they'll come in as a 'Box of 50' and they're FREE !!! Comes in handy for packing or 'Double-layering' items for extra protection.
I've been actually shipping at a mom and pop post office and they pack and tape everything for me! Going to be a major wake up call when I move away :/ should start researching how to ship effectively.
Im a new seller once again after years and years of not reselling anymore. I recently started again two months ago. I watch your video over and over again! Thanks so much for taking the time to help us newbies out!
Awesome video, bro. Wow, I got an A+ on all these pointers... except for listing everyday. Sometimes I wonder if I should save some listings as drafts, and trickle them in, instead of listing 20 on one day, and then 10 the next, and no new listings for 2 more days. What if I averaged it out, and only listed 7 a day, and then just saved the rest as drafts to list the following day? Do you guys think this helps with sales, with the ebay algorithms? PLEASE NOTE: I never list under auction. Only BuyitNow or Bestoffer.
I'm officially DONE, with ebay. My item had 61 views, 11 watchers and STILL, sold for 0.99p British. Penny, less than a pound. Just not worth the time and energy. Has to be easier ways to make a buck, than reselling. They say when you're listing at the start of your auction, to list at price you want for the item. Do that, nobody bids. Start a valuable item at 0.99p and it is selling for that or maybe a pound more. Just not worth the effort, anymore.
"Troll buster!" I HATE trolls. I LOVE to troll THEM, though. That can be a lot of FUN! Sometimes I even tell them I'm trolling them, and they CAN'T stop. Usually others join in, both sides, the more the merrier, trolling trolls, the sport of KINGS! ;-) Great tips, by the way. Thx.
Great info Dude! I have been selling as a hobby on local sites like 5miles, craigslist, and offerup. But I was looking on how to get started on Ebay. I enjoy all the tips and helpful info! Keep up the good work!
You're a likable guy and I enjoy your videos. Good info, nice personality, and you're fun. I'll keep watching-I subscribed, liked, etc. You deserve it. Thanks so much "Rockstarflipper" (don't know your first name.) Thanks again ;-)
If your're not a professional ebay seller who is constantly buying tons of inventory, selling on ebay is not worth the effort. Most people would be better off trading stocks or buying stocks for dividend yields.
It's too time consuming dealing with customers, packing/shipping items, assessing condition and details. Annoying shit when I could just sit around and get 5-10% doing nothing.
Thanks Cassy; good video; never thought about rechecking prices on my items if they were sitting. I just received an unhappy buyer and am going to email him back and see what I can do to make him happy. Lately I have been not selling anything and when selling seem to be hitting problems; not paying or wanting partial refunds or saying not as described which is a total lie for them. They just want it for free or me pay return shipping. I didn't know if they say; not as described you still pay the total price and total shipping fees. I seem to list once a week and am going to try to list daily. Thanks Cassy have a wonderful week.
I'm off from work today and I've been researching all morning trying to figure out if it would be more beneficial for me to do a store rather than just listing items. I'm so happy I decided to watch this video! You gave some great reasons why a shop would be more beneficial!! My insertions fees were very high this month hence my research. Thanks so much again Casey!! I will also look up your other video you made reference to.
Just watched your spot from 02/04. Really appreciate your style. I do have a question that I would like some feedback on concerning older listings.
* If you cancel an item, then realist as sell similar is this an advantage? Does it help with the SEO? I know this does go against your "free listing" items on your store
* If you simply revise and lower the price, does this do anything to push up in the SEO?
I have only sold just over 400 items in the last 2 1/2 years, but now am retiring and want to get really serious. Thanks for your thoughts.
Keeping a clean, organized inventory isn't just a convenience thing. Sure it will help when shipping and everything else, but most of all it's a PRIDE thing. If you don't have enough pride in your business to keep things organized and clean then you may be in the wrong business. Getting rid of the "death piles" and stacked piles not only makes you feel more professional (even though you may be the only person to ever see it) but is just one more thing you accomplished that day. If you don't have enough respect for your inventory to keep it picked up, clean, and stored/handled properly, then why would anybody else want it? Clean up your workspace, take pride in your inventory and I assure you your business will benefit because of it!
Hey, just started following due to seeing you in another video that was about "things you wish you knew when you first started ". Here's my question, when starting how do you list things so that your seen as an active member? So let's say I wanna start with 50 items, I purchase and list all 50 within the first day or two. What do I do next? Wait for items to sell them replenish? I hope I'm making sense. I really wanna get into this but wanna try and avoid as many as mistakes as possible. So I'm trying to find out the best way to start in regards to listing, being seen as an active seller, etc.
Hello. You talk about the need to buy an eBay store. I am registered as a private seller. I have been offered deals like 100 free listings a day almost continually for the past seven months. I am not sure how a paid-for store can beat this.
A store would only be useful if you have a lot of inventory to move. Like more than 300 items per month. It's only useful if you take it as a full-time job otherwise being a regular seller is best taking advntage of the free listings.
Just subscribed, #6 spending too much on supplies, for packing one Idea I thought of that may be helpful for people who are just starting out or even people who have been reselling for awhile is to check with family and friends to see if when they receive packages or buy new stuff like electronics would they hold on to the packing for you, I keep bubble wrap and any foam that I get, the foam is especially useful when you need to ship items that are fragile, just cut the foam to fit, saves using too much wrap or news paper.
Cheers from South Australia.
RockstarFlipper No prob. I was happily surprised. I was half expecting someone with a serious chip on their shoulder who was just telling everyone how they were just idiots but this was really informative. I'm working on updating my store as I'm watching more of your vids.
