This is what we actually want you to know:
Yes, we know that "Hungary" is similar to "hungry". No, we're not always hungry. No, we heard that one before. Yes, we heard it combined with Turkey, and no, we don't want to go to Turkey to have some turkey so we won't be hungry anymore.
No, most of us don't mind those jokes, but they do get a little old after the 50th time. Yes, some Hungarians joke about it too - me too as a matter of fact. :)
I'm married to a Hungarian. From what I have gathered from my in-laws, the #1 thing that they want people to know that saying, "You're from Hungary, so you must be hungry!" is NOT an original joke from you or anyone from this century. Yes, they have heard it before. Many times. Állj meg
Yup, that's true. Text2Meme has a video about Hungarian memes, one of which is the following:
Austrian guy: "If I had a dollar for every time someone called me Australian, I could have solved global hunger."
Hungarian guy: "If I had a dollar for every time someone made a joke about being hungry I could help the Austrian guy solve the water problem, too."
And it's so true! xD
Istvan Vilmos in college I took a History of the English language class. My professor showed us this massive reference book. It must have been twice the size of an atlas! It listed the “family tree” so to speak of every language. I asked about Hungarian out of curiosity. We spent 20 minutes in his office hunting through this book. Turned out there is only one other language in that particular family, Latvian. Hungarian and Latvian were the only 2 in their language group. We found that really interesting, but I’m sure that book is probably outdated by now.
This is true. I have half of my family of hungarian origin and my partner too. Theyre passionate people and proud of their culture. I never learned their language cus is too difficult. I only understand a bit spoken words but memebers of my family are fluent in their launguage.
10+ things people from Hungary want you to know : joking about being hungry whenever foreign people see or hear about our country is not funny. It wasn't funny the first time and still isn't funny the 38437475747483834456th time
Our inventors were not irrelevant. Look at Edward teller fo example, "the father of the hydrogen bomb" (which title he did not choose neither did he like btw.) the most destructive weapon known to mankind. Totally irrelevant. To say more recent things we're working strong in agriculture and healthcare and IT sectors. The country it self is small, there are about 15mil Hungarians that's not that much either. But we do shape the world somewhat. Take care and blessings to you.
@DJ Tranquilosantos Because everyone else in the world is not Hungarian, there are only 15 millions Hungarians all over the world and we really appreciate if someone who is not Hungarian speaking takes the effort to pronounce it rightly. But it's ok if people say it in an English way, I just wanted to let you know that the way how she pronounced it was the correct Hungarian pronunciation.
Thank you for thinking about Hungary in your lists but...Hungary is central European. Like, it's not an offensive mistake, but Hungary is very much in the centre of Europe and, like, if you're doing a list about it, maybe think that through so your first sentence isn't automatically incorrect? Other than that, thank you. It was a nice surprise :)
Oh, come ON. How is it one of the most difficult languages? Maybe for Americans (or English speaking people), BUT not for Europeans. I am from SLOVAKIA and almost my entire family speaks fluently Hungarian. I speak a little too and it is NOT that difficult. Not easy either, but calling it one of the most difficult languages is just TOO MUCH. Viszonlatasra!
I don't need to be an expert to know that WatchMojo is exagerrating. I live in region where people are speaking fluently both Slovak and Hungarian (and they are totally different languages). Plus, my family is half Slovak half Hungarian. I have Hungary in my blood, so I guess I know what I'm talking about. The honor goes to Chinese, Korean, Japanese and other Asian languages.
I don't want to argue, but as I said, Hungarian is NOT easy, but it might be difficult MAINLY for English speaking people. In that case, there would also have to be Czech, Polish, Slovak, Russian and other Easern European languages.
Hello from Toledo Ohio! We have a significant Hungarian population here! My stepmom immigrated from Hungary when she was a child and my dad grew up in the Birmingham area of Toledo which was mostly Hungarian at the time. He’s even done some business in Hungary. Proud to be Hungarian!
@Brigitta Kovács Almost all of them say they are related, this is not even debated anymore, where did you get those numbers from? Hungarian was prooven to be related to finnish by the same methods as any other language relation is claimed.
@Brigitta Kovács I should have worded it better. Yeah the history is the same, but also the traditional usage like some older words still used today, especially in middle and Northeast Finland which is more isolated compared to the busy south. Hungarian is just surrounded by influencers.
this country now is the worst place in europe, even romania is better in terms of corruption and white collar crime scenes. This country is led by the worst people on earth, they build football stadiums in every major city, but our healthcare and hospitals are falling down and rotting, people die every day from infections and not sanitary conditions. Saddest place in europe and even the Eu wants to kick us out..
First of all: Fuck you.
Second of all: As a nation of this small size, we were pretty damn significant relatively speaking. John Neumann, Leo Szilárd, Edward Teller, Ignacz Semmelweis, Robert Capa, László Bíró, Dennis Gabor, Béla Lugosi, Béla Bartok, Franz Liszt, Gyula Andrássy, Miklós Horthy, Matthias Corvinus, John Hunyadi and many others were Hungarians.
So once again, fuck you.
@The Doc Why are you crying? I nailed it, right? 😂 I reached the soft spots. You really are an edgy cringfactory.
"Before I loose my patience" 😂 😂
Man, do you realise that you are on the internet? Only angry nerds, who are stupid enough not to realise that start to threaten strangers under some fake account. You are pathetic. What kind of doc you are? 😰🤣
Here is the facts that you gypsy cannot accept: The place of Transylvania before the hungarians was ruled by the Avar khaganate, the place itself was nothing but a shithole under the rule of raiding turkic avars. And you were some agricultural orthodox folks living in the dirt and on the backs of saxons there. When hungarians came took the land, and after they became a catholic kingdom, they brought you western culture via catholicism, they built castles, cities, churches, trading lines, etc... basically pulled you out of the dark ages.
And about you. It is funny, how you trying to tell what kind of person I am, while all you are doing is showing your cringy personality meanwhile.
1. You come here to a totally innocent video about Hungary and the hungarian people, which has nothing to do with romanians, or did any bad to romanians and you start to randomly insult people.
2. You are acting like you could do anything to the people here, and threaning persons in a fake account.
3. U're liking your own comments.
Conclusion - You are probably an insecure, lifeless beta teen, who is bullied in school and the only thing which he can absorb his anger on is youtube.
Go back to your shithole country and improve your life, becouse hatespreading under totally peacful videos about a country is discusting and pathetic.
Dávid Bence This is my first real conversation with a talking shitstain, so I’m a little nervous, it’s expected. What’s your education level? In real life you wouldn’t even be good enough to clean my shoes, so calm down.
@The Doc Your average "mongol" is twice as white as a balkanshitmix romanian.
Also you got western culture from hungarians, before that you were hut living orthodox shepherds. Hungary got you out of the dark ages.
The first king of Hungary was King Stephen I (975-1038). Many people don't know that the famous wrighter Stephen King is actually a Hungarian. He wrote over 50 novels and 100 short stories in Hungarian, but in 1974 his novel "Carrie" was translated to English and it became so popular, that they destroyed every Hungarian copy of his books and started to republish them in English. Later he moved to the US and they created a fake identity for him. Now you can only find that he was born in Maine, but that's not true. He was born in a Hungarian village called Pusztakodkodács. He decided to write under the name of the great king, then he batrayed the country. Now Hungarians have a pact that if any of them sees Stephen King they must bring him back to Hungary and make him confess. One of the attempts to do that inspired the famous novel "It".
Hungary also had a amazing cartoon called: Mézga Family. It was like the Simpsons type cartoon, only in Hungary. It had 3 series and one cancelled 4th series, only released a intro. The show was also aired in other countries like Rusland, Germany, Italy and Holland.
Hungary is full of historical conspiracy theories. There are many Hungarians that claim we're related to Attila the Hun an such things, I've heard some saying that ancient Hungarians built the Egyptian piramids and they were the residents of Troy or Carthago. Some people say that "Carthago" is actually a distorted Hungarian name "Kard Hágó" which means "Sword Pass". There are even some who claim that Hungarians came from outer space. Basically Hungarians are aliens from Sirius who fought Romans and Greeks and pretty much every existing nation. Just go and look it up! There are some pretty messed up things.
Both country made crimes against Humanity. There are not a single country in Europe which haven't commited atleast 1 genocide. All of our flags are in deep blood. But that's how it worked back then, now we can work together instead of fighting and make something good, that's the plan at least we're on this road now. Hope all is well.
@Richard Endresz Hahaha that's what they teach you incels? You insignificant stain, before going back to cleaning toilets know this, hungary betrayed the romanians many times in history, start reading more history from reliable sources before giving me my McDonalds order, ok? What is your education lever, you inbred?
Yeah am not big fan of Hungary .For reasons seems to current racism. ,And seems to like that even in the distant past .There is only reason is where they shoot Game of Thrones ,I think could be wrong on that ,But I won't visiting some country. that has a wall around it ,Since seems to scared of the outside world ,And must bust be since seem love living under the boot of the Russian heel ,But it till see so real change in that country...And sure their some nice people from that country. ,But the people run it ate low life scumbags who deserve a real whipping. .So no warm and fuzzy thoughts from me ,When comes to Hungry .
Yes it is the hardest language in the entire world omfg.....

@B LA A helyesírással volt egy-két gond, és a robbery nem tudom, illik-e ide, tudtommal kicsit más jelentése van (az angol a rablás különböző fajtáit megkülönbözteti), viszont fogalmam sincs, miként lehetne helyesen lefordítani :D
