Do you mean Auction Professor at the end, you said Selling Professor?
I wonder if you're the "big time" YouTube reseller who snubbed him... And I wonder if the promo at the end is referencing the situation in dispute... hmmmmm
Do you have separate men's and women's mannequin's? I see yours has no head nor arms. I assume it's on a stand of some kind. Do you have mannequin's for pants too or just lay those flat and take pics. I need to invest in a mannequin(s) but not sure what kind.
Thanks for your response! Why do you think that is? I do mostly clothing items, and anything over 15 ounces I typically do flat rate. A couple ounce difference probably won't affect my desire to purchase an item, if I'm looking at an $8-10 profit, as referenced in this video. I do check the new rates every January for a basic awareness.
My concern is if I misjudge in my postage estimations I'd lose money. If I weigh an item, but end up selling it locally, all I have wasted is a few seconds of time.
You are lucky if you can take perfect photos every time. Most of my photos require some tweaking -- rotate, crop, and adjust contrast and tint. That can take 20 seconds per photo... I use the Picasa photo editor just because it is quick and easy. Also, free shipping always kills my profits. I avoid it.
Yeah, you can tack $7 onto a $20 item and call it free shipping. But that is kind of silly. It's not really free shipping - it is just sleight of hand. I am very aware of that when I am a buyer and comparing prices. I look at TOTAL cost.
Your spending to much time on photos then...Although they are very important, they are just photos on ebay. I see people with shirts Draped over toilets selling.. its ridiculous.
Also if free shipping is killing your profits then your not adding enough shipping into the price.. example... $20 item and your charging $7 for shipping.... $27 total. Instead do $27 or $28 free shipping. SAME THING
Even faster when some of the data is dictated.
Thank you for posting! :) I could not live without my iphone. I batch a huge stack of clothing to photograph at one time, do drafts on the laptop, then upload photos and list on iphone.
Great Video! Thank you! I spend at least 10 min listing each item. Most of my time researching other similar products to compare prices to know what price to list. Also, I read the description of several similar items to know what description I should put in my ad. I noticed you didn't put a description other than the basic info in the title. I guess your products are selling with very basic descriptions? Am I over complicating this?
Thanks. This helped. So, it seems my problem is my setup and that I'm still in the learning curve for the details. But you did miss the Measurements. I make sure to take measurements of all my clothing items and even my non-clothing items because people always question how big it will be. For example, Mouse Pads vary in size and may affect a buyer's decision or result in a return if not described.
You change the shipping weight when you print the label? Sorry, I'm confused. Wouldn't that piss off people who expect to pay one amount and then get charged a different amount when you send them an invoice?
Great video. I do see that when you enter the item description you put your template but then you retype the same information that you had in your title and condition. When I do a listing I just copy paste (ctrl-v Ctrl-D) from the title to description. It saves a little time but overall a little adds up.
This might have been answered, but I can not locate it. How do you save your template on your phone? I have one on desktop, saved in Notepad; very clumsy, obviously. I have iphone 7+ and do most of each listing with it, But, can't get the 30 day return, or the blurb at the bottom of description...also, how do you get it to be mobile ready??? Thanks for all your support, Casey!
Does anyone have an opinion on including measurements for garments? I still measure everything, and that would easily double if not triple the time it takes you in this video to list one item. Is it not as necessary as I thought?
Thought I saw a dog in one of his other vids! Just goes to show you can't believe everything you read in the ebay descriptions. How does he type that fast on a phone? I'm lucky to do 50 wpm on a real ergonomic keyboard.
Takes me way too long. I can't type on my phone, gotta have an actual keyboard. Plus my phone takes crap pics. I have a dslr and shoots raw. I take the pics, then have to import them into lightroom, crop & minor color/brightness adjustments, then I go to ebay on my laptop and start listing there. I always do measurements too so that takes up time. I do measurements on everything like clothes, figurines, purses, shoes. No measurements on games/puzzles/electronics type stuff though. I get maybe 4 or 5 things listed in an hour. I have got to change something. What's your super power? Coffee? Diet Coke? A caffeine I.V.? I certainly need something.
Casey in the beginning I took the same pics as you but people were constantly asking for measurements so now I just take the chest length and sleeve measurements. never fails if I don't they ask. do you get that a lot???
Hi there! I would like to know how I can make the information that is constant for all listings come right up in the description like you did in this video - I have it set up in my inserts on my pic but I don't know how you did it on your iPhone and I suppose it work the same on my iPad, too. Thanks so much for your help. I have gleamed a ton of ideas from your videos and am taking my business full-time now :)
Scott Bair it also depends what you're listing. I include measurements for everything, and if you have to edit pics and are doing a lot of 4-5 clothing items or have to research an item, it can take 15 min.
Some people take that long that don't know tips and tricks and don't have a lot of experience. I have gotten to a solid 5 minute average per item. Photographs and listing which isn't too bad. i can do some easy items quicker in 4-4.5 minutes
Tabatha Akers not usually needed. Very few items. We wash the basic items and they come out fine. The dressy items or high end stuff once in a blue moon, but it's rare so no extra time needed. I know some people do it, but it's really just unnecessary in most cases
Jamar Martin Casey makes it look easy, lots, and lots of work....need to build up your inventory.... ur it's possible..Casey proves it everyday. Good money in used books too, well not today for me....round trip 4 hours snd was almost a total bust....at least it was a nice fall day out:). Maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow. Happy picking everyone.
+RockstarFlipper There are variables such as price etc. My lowest cost item is $20 my upper end items are $50-80. Even for the $20 item because I might sell 50 pcs total in 8 different sizes. So for those I am going to spend more time making sure the pictures are really good. Opposed to the quick picks I take for some of the items I only have one of and I am trying to churn through the listing process.
VOGELTRON if it's volume just change the qnt to 25 instead of 1? Same time to list right? If it's multi variations like same item with 7 colors you could swap it up a little and spend a little more time but your listing multiple items at once the ...
RockstarFlipper I will no rush I know your very busy selling snake oil lol! I just found that video tonight crazy so I responded! Keep doing what you do for the reselling community it is very much appreciated for sure. Have a fantastic Thursday.
Last question for today lol.. I'm just starting out and ebay is charging me .30 every listing now.. is it feasible to keep listing items at .30 each when I don't know what's even going to sell? I'd hate to list 1000 items and pay $300 before anything even sells..Should I just pay for a store up front? thanks
Is there a good strategy on what clothes to look for in goodwill outlet stores? I've been trying to just buy any dress shirt/casual shirts in good condition and list for like 10/piece.. I can literally fill my cart in about 15 minutes so that worries me lol..I have no clue what I'm looking for, other than picking up anything that looks quality.. thanks!
Get brands that you recognize or that are popular. H&M, Abercrombie, banana republic, express, free people, patagonia, anthropologies, hollister, american eagle, urban outfitters, columbia. things that are decent brands
+RockstarFlipper ....Interesting, I wouldn't have thought about it that way. Except....if you do nothing but women's clothing/shoes, and that has a somewhat high rate of returns, it would probably be worse.
NO!! Its a waste of time. Im going to catch heat for this, but heres why. If you have 100 items to list and measurements take you 2 mins each thats 200 mins. If you skip measuring you might get a few questions from people about measurements THEN you do it.. And you literally won't get returns, 1 at most.. but that 1 $20 return is WAYYYY offset by the 100 items you got listed and sold. I never get returns for measurements though.
Great video. I was wondering though ~ do you not edit your pictures? I find that's the part that takes me the longest. Granted it's not a ton of time, but even if you're just spending a minute per pic it adds up. I've tried using eBay's editing tools but get better results with PicMonkey. No matter how hard I try to compose the pic perfectly before taking it, I feel it still needs touching up before posting (lighting, cropping). Thanks for your thoughts.
Hey Casey just found your videos and really enjoyed what I watched. My question is what phone are you using to list your items? Im trying to decide to either get a Iphone 6 plus or a Samsung s6 so wondering what operating system you are using. Thanks
Awesome Video Casey As always. I have learned so much about from you, you Rock. I'm organizing today and listing tonight. Woohoo! Finally have my Puter back & now that Matthews gone, I feel comfortable on setting it back up. Hey, How did you make out with the storm Casey-I was thinking of you & Kate & of course your mom. Holy crap- I can't get over how tall you are. When I first started watching you I would of guessed at least 5'9" to 5' 10. 6' ft what WOW! Lol I met someone one time in St Pete that was 7'6" who's parents were buying my Bestest Friends house and it was like Holy crap. Lol! The look on my daughter at age 9 was "Priceless"! LOL. Take care! Oh ??? Have you done a packing video yet, even though you do a lot of clothes I do a lot of everything just to pack up 2 Barbie dolls the other day it took 2 hrs including shipping label and w/ a handwritten note. Another ?? Do you have to pay taxes on your own pre-owned things. I have tons of collections. And I noticed I was at a Personal Acct until I opened eBay store and they switched me over to Business. For I'm a little skeptical on being that 100% is my pre owned barely used or old stock new from a divorce! Thanks buddy! Appreciate any advice you can help with. You rock and bust butt to help out other people you are amazing and you and Kate Deserve the Best In Life! Hugs & love to you and Kate! Let Kate know I could be a your mom age difference. Lol don't want her upset. I'm just kind I say that to all who's helped me big time. 😀💜❤️
Kelly, We did great and stayed dry.. our coast is the best :-) Everyone was fine and we had company from the other coast for a night. I am actually over 6ft lol. Katie's very tall also 5"10-5"11 I did a packing video last night, but i can do more shipping videos for sure. You can sell your personal items and just whatever they sell for put it as break even with NO PROFIT because you don't wanna be tax liable for it. Lol she reads a lot of comments and she has no problem. We thank you for watching and always commenting. Have a wonderful thursday Kelly!!
Actually goodwill puts colored plastic tabs on all their clothes as their way of pricing, and managing the age of the inventory. Most items are not new at all, and are used. They just look like the tags are missing. If there are items that have tags from other stores, Goodwill leaves them on, and still uses their own colored plastic tag holder to identify the price/or the week they are on sale in the store.
You obviously have dogs but you put its from a pet free home. I understand its not from your personal wardrobe but you also have no idea where it came from. Is that line just meant to be a sales gimmick? Thanks!
kjac23 the items are washed and stored (99%) outside of my home. Once they are washed and stored I feel that's accurate. My main listing person does the listings at the office which is free of any animals and the ones my mom does are the same. It's important to people to know where the clothing is kept. Thanks!
Hi Casey ... Just because I'm so behind in my listings I proposed to my wife your deal... $10 bucks an hour, minimum two hours a session to help me list. I said easier to take pics first but whatever pics you take need to be posted that day (learned from myself) that taking the pics is the less painful part than the actual listing. Ps...sold one scrub that had hearts on it and another that had dogs.. Free ship one sold at 10.99 the other at 11.99 (same customer so hoping to package together). Took a couple months to sell but still easy money. Now if i can manage 20 sales a day
RockstarFlipper well when you get married that probably won't work, the death stare......handbags work for her..expensive taste (thankfully I lost an auction) on a rarely see Louis Vuitton Bag.....when we got married I hear If I have a Loui it's all I will ever need NOT. She wanted a Goyard...it's ok, she truly loves them. We all have something I guess.
Ooo my reflector app? I def will. i love it!! best thing ever. Except i think it has an audio bug currently I'm gonna email support about fixing it and do a video on it this weekend or next week. thanks Derrin!!
what I do to clothes depends on their value. I have an expensive new suit with wrinkled pants but I won't iron even with a towel I'm not taking a chance ironing and marking it, now I may steam it if I get new steamer prior to it selling.
I have so much stuff to just get rid of now that I would rather list fast and sell low. I used to do this years ago with my husband mostly antiques.
After divorce I started buying to sell on the side but was working so many hours that nothing got sold. I've now quit and I'm going full-time mostly clothes until I get a storage cleaned out that's over 100 miles away with antiques vintage etc. Plus another one from my family home that my sister abandoned a bunch of stuff.
I've got about 600 square ft of stuff that needs gone. Bummer is that I'm not allowing myself to buy until it's all gone except one sale and almost everything I bought sold well and for decent money as its newer and not so dated.
listing faster is definatly the key and I seem to hyperfocus on researching some cheap piece of clothing, because I love researching things. sigh ....discipline needed :)
Thank you, with every one of your videos, I learn something new that is sure to help in my own marketing. There is one item that repeat regularly that I would like clarification on. You've said that you pay your employees $10.00/hour and always mention $400/week in your profit calculations. I know we reside in different states but it seems that I, at least, also need to factor in matching Social Security, State Industrial Insurance and a few other employee expenses. Wouldn't it be more accurate to quote a different formula when discussion the potential profits from employee performance rates? Have you calculated an added percentage/employee costs factor that would better help us make a decision about hiring assistants?
Ken, my employee works 30 hours a week 6 per day usually....so thats $300 sometimes $320 (32 hours).... then my weekly payroll tax/SS/medicare matching is around $80 so it totals $400 out the door.. Good eye sir
Unfortunately the person who built this house in the 60's had a deep aversion to the government and suspected them of spying on people. So when he built this house, he had heavy duty foil placed in the area below the roof to keep the government from spying inside his home. So we get no cell service inside our house. If we stand beside a window we might get lucky and get some, but usually we have to go outside to get service. LOL I have to list the old fashioned way on my desk top, taking pictures from a regular camera.
I always search for an existing listing that sold and then click sell yours. That way I know the category is correct. Then I make sure everything is correct. Edit. List. Do you create a new listing all the time?
No sometimes we do sell similar but since its mostly on the app its always just new listing a lot. I know sometimes my listing girl does the same type items one after another so she can just click sell similar
yea this is only for items like clothes or new items with not much of a description, For items like i sell i couldn't do it this fast at all no way. I sell vintage items, Antiques collectables, it takes me a average time of 10-15mins per item, Thats with a good description and 12 photos. But yes you are correct. nice vid, i watch all your videos, i am located in FL as well, Gainesville to be exact, I come to Tampa area a lot and hit the estate sales, i have only been doing eBay for a little while, i like it and i have been doing really good. I kind of taken off a little to fast, but i am slowing down and making a lot of changes using alot of things I've learned from you guys on youtube i watch you and pickingforprofits, Craigslisthunter,, and so on. Thanks for the info and help.
thanks Casey for the response you gave me from your last video. this was another awesome video. does the usps have a rate chart that I can get from my local post office. such as 1st class vs priority on weight and size to find the least expensive shipping.
I was thinking of mainly their bras.....they sell high end brands like Wacoal for a song.....was going to buy ONE and see how it works, but I am sure others must have the same idea. Or, the extra large size Playtex.....but, truthfully, we are mostly into "smalls" because my hubby has this idea that people do not want to pay shipping, even if somehow included in the price. In fact, my hubby HATES doing eBay, period. It is I who pushes him.....for spare cash.
+Susan Coster Your referring to nicole state, and SOMETIMES i do it, but honestly think of it this way. Spend $10 on an item for sell for $30.. make a $20 profit. or buy an item for $1 to sell for $10 profit.. buy 2 items for $2 and make the same $20. spent $2 rather than $10. if capital matters then thats important. But it does take more time, i just like less cost of goods. Either way is good however.
I was wondering if you believe in shopping the clearance at stores like Ross and flipping items from there like the woman from crazy hair in Portland? (She recently bought stuff from Nordstrom Rack to flip..)
