EBay realized they were making a lot less less money, because sellers were selling less. This ranks up there with Coke deciding to retool their soda to the New Coke, way back when. eBay had a major profit fail and they had to backtrack. $$
This reversal MAY only be for Q4. Their announcement also says "If there are any changes made to this decision in the coming year, you’ll be informed right away." So... we'll see if the reversal sticks!
Thanks for the news Casey. I have been hesitant to get started selling on ebay. I have been studying all the ins and outs and watching almost all of your videos (tyvm). With this good news I'm ready to pull the trigger and get started selling. I'm on the east coast, West Palm Beach area and hope sourcing is good here. I'll let you know.

I’m trying to get a business started reselling Disney World specific items sold only in the parks, on eBay. But I’m having a very slow go of it. I’m trying not to carry stock unless I know it will sell. Am I setting myself up for failure by not carrying a stock? Need help. Suggestions?
RockstarFlipper I live just north of Orlando. I made about $500 profit on the Haunted Mansion Funkos and another $300 on the cauldron popcorn buckets. So I know there is a lot of money to be made. Plus as a passholder I get 20% off of almost all merchandise. Problem with running there every day is I have a 9-5 job as an accountant so going every day is basically improbable.
I mean if you live near the park and can go everyday and grab whatever sells then absolutely you could do it...List everything and then wake up in the morning and drive and get it and then take it and ship it....kind of a pain. Once you know items are sellable then I would start stocking. Also if Disney every stopped selling an item and you sold it, you could be in trouble.. Worth a shot I guess.... But Disney in park prices, I dont see how you could profit on ebay with the prices they charge inside of the parks.. I live 45 minutes from Disney world in Orlando and I would never think to resell anything
Nice! I personally don't use the markdown. I do different methods. Mainly because I agree/disagree lol Personally I believe buyers now a days are more informed regardless of that strike through lots of them know prices get inflated and then put on "sale". Nonetheless glad those who use markdown got their use of it back haha😁
It looks like the strikethrough pricing on the android app is only showing up on some sellers. I see strikethrough on the mobile site and desktop but on the app only some sellers are getting the strikethrough when stuff is on sale. Anyone else see this? I'm talking about the search results, strikethrough is showing up on the app if you click a listing.
I wish we could be as happy as you guys, but after just speaking to ebay on Live Chat - here in Australia we STILL have to wait 7 days to put Items on Promotion... Which sucks!.. And we don't get other cool stuff that you guys get, like coupons for shipping supplies etc.. :( C'mon Ebay Australia - Get with the Program!!!
Finally! Is ebay corporate going to make a major U Turn and FINALLY start heading in the right direction???! This IS a start, and a Great Decision by ebay corporate. But on the rest I guess we'll just have to wait and see what they do.
That's awesome. Ebay is always changing stuff and most of the time it's not that bad and we can adjust to it. But I think they realized that this was something that really not only hurt sellers but hurt Ebay as well. It was something that was not in everyone's best interest. I'm glad they listened. Cause if the sellers don't make money, neither does Ebay. And putting a hold on markdown manager like that was a really stupid thing. Even with all the changes that comes along in business, not doing sales is never a smart thing. That is one thing that you can't change. Buyer's love a deal! That is guaranteed. I'm glad they came to their senses.
What Casey says in the video is true. I went to a Coach Purse outlet 5 years ago and they had everything marked down 75%. Everything was priced from $200-$500 range. At the time I thought it was a big sail I stumbled opon. I returned recently and guess what? They had the same exact sale going on. I think that sale went on every day. They do it because it obviously works.
So I'm probably going to get a lot of haters, but I kind of liked the 14 day waiting period. I could get full price for the item in the first 14 days and then it would automatically drop to my sale price and I didn't have to do anything. Now if I want to run an item at normal price for a couple of weeks before having it go on sale I have to go in and update them manually. Just another step for me to do. And yes, I do feel it's rather deceptive having your items ALWAYS on sale. So I guess what I need to do is if I want to sell an item for $100 I need to list it for $1000 and do a 90% discount sale so it looks like I have a bigger discount than everyone else. Seems F-ed up to me!
eBay management supposedly makes decisions based on data and I think this time, it was Devin shooting from the hip based on his opinion that “items always on sale are never on sale” (or something like that he said) and was just proven wrong. When you are paid as much as him, it’s hard to understand how a sale motivates buying decisions.
And dear God I will they wouldn't slap on offers for us in the new app automatically with a decline/accept offer amount for us. I have to remember to look and take that off. No Ebay if I am listing something for 60 dollars I don't want to accept an offer for 20 bucks. Thank you.
Updating 20 drafts. It's a new app, no it's the old, nope it's new, nope it's old. Every day over and over and this is with in a 20 minute time span. If I have say 15 or 20 drafts I am downloading pictures to the app will literally change from the new to the old with in those 20 listings. Also, one minute it shows views on the main screen and the next it's gone. Also on my phone it's showing a clock count down under the item on the main screen but cutting off the hour. lol. Maybe I have the screen zoomed in. But it's frustrating, I get used to it the new way and then it's back to the old and vice versa.
It’s so annoying! I have to change the shipping to free shipping and then the weight to 4 oz instead of 8 then change the immediate pay to yes, then I need to do it over again take the best offer again instead of taking 30 seconds it takes over a minute... just so annoying!
Omg, yes!! I list mainly on my phone, and the changes they have made are not for the better. I have emailed ebay ios many times, requesting they change back many of the prior easier features. The prior app was not too bad, but what they changed it to now is definitely not better, too much to go in to here, about all the features changed or missing, but I would suggest emailing [email protected] to let them know, as the more that voice an opinion, the better.
If you walk into a brick and mortar store. There are candy at the checkout that is "marked down" people see it and they buy. It is strictly an impulse buy. These sales are the same for online. I was reading some where, that if you have 2 items for sale. One is marked $40 normal price and the other is marked $45 with 50% off people will buy the $45 one. Reason is people start looking at the one that is not marked down like there is something wrong with the item. Is it broke, damaged, stolen, etc... Our brains are weird with things like that. I believe it is strictly due to over thought.
I liked pricing my listings at a competitive price that might sell within the two weeks. If It didn't sell in the 2 weeks then it would just go on sale. My store is usually always on sale so I didnt' like an item going on sale immediately. However It's not a big deal and I'll just go back to my old stragedy. I do like how we don't have to wait 14 days for a sale after changing the price.
I'm not thanking them. It's like thanking a bully for giving you your bike back.They cost me $1,000s in sales over the past few months. Plus they still screwed the pooch on the mobil app. Absolutely useless for listing now. Don't worry they will do something equally stupid in a short time.
This is good news; thanks for the update. I don't know who put the bug in their ear to re-think this, but now I'm gonna get greedy and hope they can also get eBay to re-think their BS policy on TRS and free returns.
