Video Description: Is thrift shopping or retail arbitrage better for selling online? There are pros and cons to each one, thrifting you can find more one off items at lower prices, retail arbitrage you can find higher price point items and typically more than one of each. In today's video we go to Goodwill as well as Dollar general, Target and TJ maxx to see what we can find to flip on ebay and amazon. I was looking for a “projected” grand total or each method at the end. Where you guys say we spent x. We’re projecting a profit of y. For a roi % of
Also totally thought ally was doing karate at the end. Then realized she just sneezed. I got super excited for nothing. :( Maybe next time.
I definitely prefer thrift/garage sales to retail arbitrage. With thrifting, it seems like I have a better return on my investment, it's a hundred percent more interesting to do, I get to do my own shopping along side of it and I often feel like I'm rescuing items, especially if I'm getting them from a bin store. Right now, I have an Irish merino wool sweater up. It came out of one of the St. Vincent's dig and save bin stores. It is beautiful. Looks absolutely new. How it ended up in the last stop for items store, sold by the pound, I will never know. I get messages from my buyers telling me how they've been looking for this item, how it completes their collection, how thankful they are that I offered it. I never get that from RA.
You guys do a good job. You are not sugar coating anything. Retail arbitrage in my experience has been a wasted day. If I stumble on it while out or lunch break I will do it. But won't mess with anything under 25 bucks. Target is tossing resellers out. I think another Youtuber got escorted out and was not allowed to buy anything. You 2 make reselling clothes work for you. I enjoy your advise and videos. Keep it up
In my experience, nothing beats the goodwill bins. Getting stuff by weight is great. Of course, competition is fierce there. But, I just sold a Ralph lauren polo jacket for 150$ dollars. I paid 4$. I can almost guarantee the reason that jacket ended up at the bins is because Goodwill see items like that and puts them 20-30$+, no one buys it and it ends up at the bins. My 2nd favorite spots are colored tag days at locally owned thrift stores. The 2 sales I hit is a wednesday weekly sale where "colored tag is 50% off + you get 2 items 4.99$ or under for free" which means, 2.50 for 3 items / 83c each. Then a local church thrift has a 50c sale every last week of the month. Getting 2 items for a dollar is awesome. I don't find crazy good items at this store, but good bread and butter stuff and its pretty easy to find 20+ items if you look.
LOOOOOVE BATIK!! Malaysia has tons. You can tell if it’s “real” if the inside looks as bright as the outside, because the painted ink goes all the way through the fabric. It’s fun to watch it being made.
What advice do you have for a brand new eBay seller that has no reputation. I price my items very good, free shipping and free returns but people still don’t buy because I have no sales and I don’t blame them because it’s what I look for when buying
This is kinda off topic but what type of computer(s) do you guys use for your ebay and video editing. My 2013 macbook air makes one listing take 20+ minutes not counting the time it takes to take pictures. I'm thinking about getting the new imac 2019 i5, 512 ssd
I saw a video where the manager from a goodwill said lots of clothes sit in a trailer for long periods of time and that rats and poo are all over the clothes but I really dont see making money if I'm washing my clothes all so
I used to go to retail stores to get lots of clothing to sell here in Mexico, but those were the days, nowdays because of the current exchange I can´t get same profit, also outlets like Bealls, used to have amazing discounts, something happened and now they have good sales, but not incredible ones like before-yeah, times have changed for shopping at retail stores, it has to be a real good sale, otherwise, better to go dumpster diving, lol
Target is a bust for me as well. Was in there yesterday, first thing I read was a note randomly on a shelf talking about resellers. Unless you know exactly what you're going for in Target, I don't recommend it lmao.
I only do retail arbitrage for shoes and levis from Ross and Marshalls. I actually just picked up 12 pairs of shoes at marshalls for $72 and 9 pairs of shoes at Ross for $74! I'm making The profit on these were insane, so i was definitely stoked for today :)
since i live in the uk thrifting is a lot harder so i started doing retail arbitrage and have been doing pretty well with it but just a tip for anyone who does RA or wants to do RA you can also source items online too i source 95% of my items i sell on amazon online and have been doing pretty well considering i'm only on my third month of selling btw loved the video
I like the thrill of the hunt so yard sales and thrift stores are for me. You never know what you will find and the profit is way better than buying retail goods. We have done both and my husband and I love yard and estate sales.
Hey I have a question allie and ryan, I'm not complaining but I'm curious. I just had a buyer pay cash via paypal and I received it instantly. I never had this happen, the money is usually on hold till they receive the package. Is this normal?
Two major cons with Retail Arbitrage:
1. Cost is usually higher
2. Saturation, everyone in the country is getting the same item Target has on Clearance plummeting the price.
You also need to know your stores markdown days to take full advantage.
Awesome cool video guys. Would you consider a video on selling on Amazon and Walmart? I would like to know more about it. I had never heard of selling for Walmart until this video. I have also never heard of PAYABILITY until this video. I am a 61-year-old man. Trying to figure out ways to make extra money. I am grateful for any info you post. I truly hope you have a Blessed Week.
I haven't done a lot of RA, Several weeks ago I got a tip that my Walmart was getting rid of shoes at 2 bucks a pair, I went and bought 10 because I didn't know how well they would sell, I sold all and made a very nice profit, Just wish I had bought more now.
Found my first Orvis yesterday. Never heard of the brand until watching your videos. It's a lightweight 1/4 zip pullover in XXL. At my Goodwill on Mondays, whatever tag color was the sale the previous week, is only $1.79. Think I scored getting the Men's Orvis for $1.79.
RALLI ROOTS thanks guys ! I’m relatively new to the eBay game but have been a little too lazy lately but I will download the app and try and gain knowledge for the resale of clothes cuz it seems to do you guys pretty well. Also you guys seem to have good stores out in FL as far as thrifts
Haha, I was just at those same two stores (Salvation Army Family Store and Goodwill on S. Florida Ave.) in Lakeland yesterday! I didn't find anything at either. I don't ever go through the clothing though.
I can do an Amazon $ transfer every 24 hours......is that not the case for most third party sellers? I've had my selling account since 2003 though....maybe they restrict new accounts? Does anyone have any additional info on this subject?
Just an FYI for those considering RA. The Deal Queen has 1 or 2 videos on fakes where people have bought an authentic item and then changed the label and returned it. I think it was either Marshalls or TJ Maxx. But just be aware that it does happen sometimes.
I just started doing more retail arbitrage and been having more success than thrifting, Im doing less thrifting because more resellers have been spending the whole day in the thrift store like 6-8 hours getting all the good deals as they come out it’s hard to compete against that I’m not spending the whole day in a thrift store not worth it.
