This theory is flawed! x_x 1. Capable of being funny is ONE sign of intelligence. 2. Not being funny is NOT a sign of being less intelligent. It's only ONE component! A depressed melodramatic person can be supermegaintelligent too, since intelligent people tend to be more concerned about life than others. In addition a man generally WANTS to be viewed as funny. For a woman it's considered better to be perceived as serious, disciplined and ambitious. And yeah I know, I'm not funny at all. :'-(
So does this mean I am on the completely other end of the spectrum? I am not funny at all, very seldom talk, and have a natural frown so people think I am pissed off all the time when I am fine. Also I don't find humor in much of anything. Am I a moron? That explains a lot actually. Now I am depressed.
Thanks Man. I really don't know how I made it in my profession if I was an Idiot. Not that I took it that serious. Youtube is really going down the toilet fast. Now their are
"Mainstream" Youtube channels which goes against the whole theory. I generally just use it for news but some of it can't be relied on. Any suggestions would be well received. Thanks again.
+Ryan Wesemann I don't think people really ever should get offended by comedy because it is just that. However, I do agree that the kind of funny that never offends anyone is the best bet because there are so many easily offended people out there. It can be very hard to maintain relationships with other people if you do joke around about another person or group of people.
"Sarcasm; The lowest form of wit but the highest form of intelligence" - Oscar Wilde
Although I think if Oscar was being honest instead of Wilde, I am pretty sure he would of said "Puns are just the worst, stop... don't do them!"
Well, of course there are less comedeans among women, they just started to be percieved uqually as men, and it's still in process... they've been opressed for long on the inside and outside, so there is no wonder! But speaking of the potential, I seriously doubt there would be a difference.
Psychology 101(or any first year Psych class):
correlation ≠ causation
Being funny ⇒ Being smarter, more charming
It makes sense in some respects as you would think funny people need to be well versed in many avenues of speech and rhetoric and hence, tend to be more well read and charming in the process.
Hopefully, the converse has some merit too.
The sample size of women in the 1970's might be too small to generalize for all female comedians of that era.
I'm curious to find out what is the R-value for the correlation in both studies new and old.
Sense of timing rates pretty high on comedic potential. The ability to draw from a wide range of references instantly generally connotes high cognitive abilities. It makes the brand of humor more accessible and easier to relate to. Obscure references or humor tends to have a smaller audience (gets fewer laughs). Clever equation jokes rarely set a room filled with average people on fire. Naturally, command of the language in which humor is being expressed rates pretty high. Try telling a joke in a foreign language to native speakers of said language. Cricket, cricket. So sure; high intelligence helps with comedy, but hardly guarantees most people will "get" an individual's brand of humor.
She implied that they should've had more female subjects, but in reality its just harder to find professional female comedians, especially at the time the study was done. I don't understand how I contradicted myself, she was clearly implying that the study wasn't effective because they didn't have more female subjects, but that's just not true. I really don't care if the subjects were male or female because it's totally irrelevant to the point of the study.
+Zzyzx HD If that is the case, then why did you make it about feminism? She was simply stating the fact that the number of females compared to the number of males in the study is inadequate and doesn't really seem to be proportionate enough to represent both groups accurately. In short, you are the one that turned this into a statement about feminism, and in doing so you have completely contradicted yourself. To be completely honest, I really don't think that you even have the correct definition of feminism, because if you did you'd know that if feminism wasn't so widely accepted, women probably wouldn't be able to do half of the things they do today and Hannah probably wouldn't even be granted permission to be in this YouTube video.
+Wonders Above I got what you were saying but man keep it simple don't put too many difficult words....
for Americans ok but for us that we live in a foreign country it's kinda hard to get what you are saying when you have "difficult" words in your speach.
+Silly Millie I'd like to point out that you said "Hello dear feminist" like you yourself aren't a feminist, but you must be a feminist because if you weren't, you would spread your thoughts and ideas so freely to the public as you would believe that your ideas are useless and inferior to that of a man's. It's clear, however, that you do not feel this way, so I encourage you to learn more about this topic before you continue the conversation you are carrying out right now with this other person(If you had plans to do so).
+Kung Lao I can't justify the fact that you are racist, but I know that you are extremely narrow-minded and a clear misogynist. These to two things are in no way reasonable attributes to be proud of, and the fact that you still shout these psychopathic ideals and think you can be intellectually superior to anything is quite the clear indicator that your mind is not very well acquainted with logic. I feel sorry for you because you have to live your life seeing through those dim, uncomprehending eyes of yours like a dog in an airport save the fact you, unlike a dog, are yet another blockade keeping the human race from getting closer to achieving equality. How is that a person can have so much prejudice built up inside of them that they go on the internet and try to convince people that females are not only inferior to males in the field of intellect, but also in the fields of genetics, potential, or opportunity(Which walks hand in hand with potential rendering it a moot point)? To add to that, the fact that you tried to criticize the intellect of females is extremely hypocritical because not only do you yourself not have an intellect great enough to judge humans based on attributes other than their sex, but you also try to say that the place in which a person is born determines whether or not they will be a good person. It's really no different than that of small children dividing teams by sex or picking your friends based on their parents success and wealth. You are a poor example of a human being.
@Adam Murray she was upset because the sample size was 55 men and 14 women and her point was it skewed the results, John said they probably couldn't find more than 14 female comedians back then. i was trying to find a solution, they can always scrap that study and do it over now that we have a lot more than 14 women on that stage.
