As usual the USPS managed to target the services I use for the biggest increases. I am a film photographer and I have to mail my slide film in for processing. I just mailed four rolls of film for processing and it cost $4.69. Last month before the rate hike, I paid $3.75. That's a 25% increase! It just blows my mind that fuel costs have gone down 40% from a few years ago while shipping costs have increased at least that much while service just keep getting worse.
The zone prices have been a huge impact on me. Some 12 oz video games which were normally 3.60 to ship are now 5 bucks depending on the zone. Some of the heavy items shipping is like shipping to canada in terms of Cost. What annoys me is that when gas was 4 dollars a gallon they had to increase cost for fuel surcharges. Now that gas has been cheap for the last 2 years they are increasing prices again.
Danimir Martell (2 months ago)
And the funny think of this increase is that china is still send it package to us for pennies.
Ryan Medows (2 months ago)
Jeff Lombardi (2 months ago)
This is getting ridiculous. Postage inflation is running at about 10% the last 5 years.
timmy (5 months ago)
put these scumbags out of business pay all bills online i do have no use for post office
Waqas Ijaz (5 months ago)
The reason the Post Office loses money, is payroll and benefits. You have employee's that make $60-70k a year doing retail jobs. Besides management does anyone make that kind of money at Target or CVS. And the government benefits, crazy. Do you ever see anyone young just entering the workforce at the post office. All ways someone whos been around, making good money. Just the wrong business model.
Danny Anderson (6 months ago)
I shut my store down, doing only bigger price items and finding different local platforms. Fedex gets most of my shipping business now.

well im glad i have mercari

Just heard about a new fee from ebay from a Canadian seller called international shipping and import charge. Anyone have any info on this? Or even heard about this. Customer said if this is the case no more buying from ebay USA for them
ryaes92 ryaes92 (6 months ago)
If anyone gets tracking that says alert unable to deliver to address and you refunded them. They just got scammed by that buyer. Buyers can reroute package and get a new tracking (you won’t get the tracking) I told a couple people and they don’t believe me. Next time a package fails to deliver and it says alert call eBay. I can send screen shots. Rockstar flipped I tried emailing you to ask you to cover it with my screen shots. It has been attempted on me twice but since I already know it’s no problem for me. Has to be people that see this message that has a failed delivery where they refunded
ryaes92 ryaes92 (6 months ago)
My tracking to buyer said. Address may be unreadable or undeliverable, package forwarded. (Package appears to be gone after that, this is not a forward back to you) This is not usps this is the buyer who already received.
eternity_of_mondays 64 (6 months ago)
If I have to pay more then I would like my mailman to stop giving me my neighbors mail and vice versa. Maybe they could also keep him from napping in the parking lot next door.
Lauren J. Reale (6 months ago)
I have but one comment Casey: Crap! (But thanks for the info!)
StarkRavenWIld (6 months ago)
Wonder if Poahmark will go up on their rates?
Flipping Debt Free (6 months ago)
I'm not upset about the proposed USPS increases, I am frustrated that eBay isn't advocating for sellers (and buyers, really) when an increase happens. Mercari and Poshmark are both able to negotiate appropriate rates. I wish eBay would do the same.
Hey Huda (6 months ago)
Ebay better start asking USPS shipping discounts for sellers. This is getting ridiculous
Sleekcartim .sleekcartim (6 months ago)
sadly the USPS is the only game in town for some of their services. Im sure trump is happy cuz that POS was screaming about amazon getting good rates with USPS which of coarse is a LIE
METALMAN4Wii (6 months ago)
eBay Drones?
Alexander Braynard (6 months ago)
As soon as I find another way - USPS will be cut out of my business. Some how some way. We're under attack. Again unfair advantage to China. Here's an idea - charge them more not less. Our leaders could give a shit about this, let's make them.
Mike M (6 months ago)
We can always start restricting our shipping and free returns to say 500 miles on 1st class. If done right ebay's algo will take into account the 1st class shipping variation and start ordering the results with the nearest sources/ lowest shipping cost highest on the results. Sort of condensing the national source region to more localized community source modules like in the early 1800's all due to increasing shipping costs.
_ Gorno (6 months ago)
Everyone that watches these needs to call and complain about the ebay fees 11% that we pay for the shipping costs. It is ridiculous to still be charging that when you have free shipping. The software could easily handle subtracting the labels that you print. The rep for ebay when I suggested that said "its not fair to those that don't print labels on ebay" YEAH IM SURE THATS THE REASON. EBAY WANTS TO BE FAIR. lol seriously ebay support is a joke now. Almost noone there has any power to actually do anything.
_ Gorno (6 months ago)
Also not sure if everyone noticed it says padded flat rate envelope moving to $8? Right now it cost 6.9 on ebay so hopefully it will cost about the same as that after discount. If not that is a huge increase much more than 6%. It seems like everytime we have a method to ship to save money they jacket the prices up. It used to be Priority mail region A boxes back in the day now for me I ship lots of items over 1 pound in the padded flat rate envelopes to save a lot of money. I wonder if someone has a sheet of the prices from the post office from say 7 years ago. They have to be 100% higher by now with this increase. I think 8 ounce first class was around 2 bucks? Am i wrong about that, I cant remember. Its over 3 now tho.
_ Gorno (6 months ago)
Do these increases in any way affect Amazon, or does this just push us further from competing with their price points?
Oh My Cha Chingness ! (6 months ago)
And Amazon gets cheap prices...
Anne (6 months ago)
If EBay wants to keep playing the let’s look like Amazon game (free ship and free returns) they need to negotiate a flat first class discounted rate like Mercari does and exempt us sellers from zone based first class rates. If that is imposed on us, no one is going to keep doing free shipping.
Anne (6 months ago)
So zone based first class shipping has got to mean the death of ‘free shipping’ listings, right? How would we calculate for that as sellers? Just charge everyone the max zone price? EBay will hopefully come up with some solution to this for us - they push free shipping but this will make it awfully tricky to price..
Cade Murphy (6 months ago)
ebay should just tell usps they will drop them, lets see if they change the rates then
Scarlet Spider (6 months ago)
The best way to avoid this being a problem is to just sell higher priced items that are in high demand. I realize that not everyone has access to that kind of inventory and that’s why they sell cheaper stuff, but nothing lasts forever and the market is always going to be changing. For some that means they need to change their business model...and unfortunately for others it’s probably going to force them to leave online selling...it’s just the way it is.
Scarlet Spider (6 months ago)
All the more reason to do calculated shipping vs free or flat rate. Otherwise you need to adjust all your shipping prices every year when they do this.
Danny Stark (6 months ago)
Oí that is annoying, glad i dont Always do free shipping, as well barely do Shipping on my personal time. Sucks for people as you doing free shipping. Annoying padded flats going up. Was dissapointed when it jumped to 7.20 like using it on various items.
Christian Hine (6 months ago)
Ebay needs to drop the ten percent fee on shipping charges for those who buy exact postage via Ebay based on customer location. It would eliminate the prior issue of offering free product at exaggerated shipping rates to avoid fees, but help resellers absorb these price increases. They make money on our shipping anyway by keeping the difference in the usps negotiated rates and the discount they give us.
TheRoflcopter84 (6 months ago)
I think this is actually good news to a degree. Now all the clowns dumping their entire closet on ebay for $5+free shipping per item are either losing money and will give up or will have to raise prices. This will also help root out the losers who offer me $4 for a tommy bahama. Now nobody can get them a shirt for much under $10-12. The rising tide will lift all boats. I’m sick of idiots who think i can send them a pair of jeans with a $.50 stamp. At $8 for a padded flatrate, the cheapest pair on ebay is going to be $15+.
TheRoflcopter84 (6 months ago)
There’s a price change pdf in the link that gives a first class zone table
Kitty Purrzz (6 months ago)
Omg I probably need to start walking and deliver these packages lol 😂😂I can't with these changes. This is getting expensive especially with free shipping items and buyers hate paying for shipping
THC Man (6 months ago)
They want to play that game so don't offer free shipping let the buyer pay for the shipping. They know online shopping is rising by the second so theirs extra money to be made and their capitalizing on it.
MakingEndsMeet (6 months ago)
We all need to contact ebay to get them to make sure they are updating pricing for calculated shipping!!! Right now if you do calculated shipping for First Class it cuts you off at 13 oz. but we are allowed to go up to 16 oz. Ebay is automatically charging Priority rates of minimum $6.70 for First Class packages weighing 15 oz. Sooo not ok. Buyers will think we're doing it. I do calculated shipping because of these high postal rates so the buyers know it is not me but $6.70 for a First Class package over 13 oz is too much and its going to blow back on any of us using it.
Dan Day (6 months ago)
With the zone first class shipping. Do you think it might be time to start using calculated shipping?
RedWagon (6 months ago)
It's time to think about possible strategies now. If you're doing free returns for TRS has it really been worth it? Enough to eat the price increases? I say meh, TRS may not be worth it and go back to charging shipping, though I may do the option to pass on the ebay discount. Especially since it feels like 90% of my sales are to the other coast. Oh and @rockstarflipper thanks for the sonic speed update, we'd all have heart attacks if they ever actually lowered rates. LOL
Gamer Treasures (6 months ago)
Thanks for the info, this really sucks. :(
Sandy Sandy (6 months ago)
Poskhmark has the one price up to 5 lbs deal with USPS and thats little company compared to ebay I would think ebay would have more pull idk BTW went to ship a 23 lb painting and all i get is UPS option no way out!!! So frustrating where is the reg label page...just put in a call to ebay... major time wasted, anyone get this?
Carwash Country (6 months ago)
Amazon and others need to put these clowns out of business. Late packages, lost packages, same service, higher prices? This is not inflation, this is a company losing money trying to stick it to customers.
Lilly (6 months ago)
doesn't bother me. I have calculated shipping on all my items and customer pays.
Michelle S. Hawkins (6 months ago)
Add we still have the cheapest postal rates in the world. Costs of doing business. Work it in and keep selling.
Michael Cook (6 months ago)
There is no such thing as free shipping on ebay. Just another gimmick ebay uses in my opinion.I wish everyone would stop using the free shipping option all together.I don't use it myself. Also has anyone ever noticed ebay started charging final valve fees on shipping because some sellers where making a profit on shipping?.Isn't that what ebay is guilty of doing themselves?Making a profit on shipping costs?
5797029 (6 months ago)
We ship a lot by USPS Ground. They are zone based. Shipped one yesterday from Florida to Washington. Cost $27. If it had stayed within our own zone it would have been around $10 and upgraded to Priority. Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico rates and delivery times can be worse. Some take almost a month to get to the destination. We will find a way to make these new rates work without causing too much pain.
Ian Victorine (6 months ago)
The first class change is brutal.
Sophie's Choice (6 months ago)
They scalp us on shipping, yet China ships for pennies. My husband recently got scammed on eBay by a Chinese drop shipper in California on a memory card. He asked the guy to give him his money back and they offered half. Hubby went to eBay who said he had to return the item at OUR cost, then get half a refund. If I sold a fraudulent item eBay would send them a label at MY EXPENSE, not theirs. China's shipping rates are one reason we have to pay through the nose to ship.
greatwally13 (6 months ago)
Question is it legal for ebay to charge a fee on shipping, it's a service they don't provide so how can they charge for it, can you please look into this and see if we all can sue for the years they have charged us for this illegal fee?
Wordivore (1 month ago)
Yeah, this is the thing I have the most problem with. Charging us for charging for shipping.
Kat Katisattic1 (6 months ago)
I don't usually lose $ on shipping because I do calculated. I also offer the option to ship via FedEx. FedEx is farther from my place, but worth it to get the sale. Thanks Casey, for always keeping us informed!!!
Madd Catter (6 months ago)
This is insane. How much money does USPS think we're making, here?
Rusty Nail (6 months ago)
I don't know what americans are complaining about at least you have a flat rate option for under 10 dollars. Our small flat rate box starts at 14.99 in Canada and only ships IN CANADA for that price. Wed have no prepaid padded envalopes. I shipped a item from Toronto area to USA the other day and it was 17.99 for me to ship 8 wireless chargers I only charged 49.99 for the entire lot of 8 and 15 dollars shipping. Here in Ontario we take the hit just to stay in the game on shipping. Id do anything for a flat rate envelope for 6-7-8-9 even 10 dollars!
3.9 inches (1 month ago)
Canada is a socialist country. Socialist countries aren’t good for doing business cause way more taxes. Anyways If you want to make more money then move to America.
MyMason100 (6 months ago)
And shipped a priority package to California from Florida today and the customer paid $20.30 on an $7.99 item ( that's pathetic )
Candace Pitt (6 months ago)
Sooo...does stamps.com offer better discounts than the ones we get on eBay??
LiS Wright (6 months ago)
I'm going to put in my description a little blurb that the USPS ship prices are increasing in 2019. So at least the customer knows why they pay shipping. Isn't this what Trump proposed the USPS do? How is it going to effect China shipping? I notice that some of the items I used to buy from China, like ink cartridges has doubled in price and they are charging shipping. Time to get a boatload of flat rate priority envelopes.
Rebecca Brown (6 months ago)
I refuse to worry about it until it's approved. Things like this have a long track record of being shot down. And yes, I will contact them.
Michael Robertson (6 months ago)

Warning! Clicking on the the pinned link may cause upset stomach and headaches. It also may make you feel like you are having hallucinations, but you're not, because those are the real USPS price increases. Read the pinned link at your own risk. :-)

I knew I could count on you for this video. As soon as I heard about it, I went to the usps page to read for myself. UGH!! Here we go again. Thanks for keeping us informed.
Kilroy (6 months ago)
At a certain point, UPS and FedEx is going to be cheaper. Maybe we've reached that point. How do the prices compare now?
Mike M (6 months ago)
Expect ups and FedEx to go up too like last time USPS did or has everyone already forgotten that?
Keith O (6 months ago)
For heavier bulky stuff they already are, but I doubt they will ever be competitive for less than a pound. Also, they will no doubt be increasing rates as well.
Mike Martin (6 months ago)
Customer pays for shipping at my store. I have no worries. To infinity and beyond!
San Sanich (6 months ago)
Do we have a choice?
FarmGurlScavenger Noel (6 months ago)
Another reason why I don't and won't do free shipping 😏👩‍🌾
Bob Hale (6 months ago)
Will the Chinese get these price increases also..........YEA RIGHT!
Mark Piatt (6 months ago)
Between USPS and the new tax laws, our fine government is killing us. If only I was in China.
Musashi-san ____ (6 months ago)
This is such bullshit. They are trying to squeeze us even more to pay for ridiculous pensions. Gonna look into FedEx, and Amazon's multi-channel fulfillment. Not gonna keep rewarding failure (USPS).
GeorgiaBound (6 months ago)
That would be $208 not $280 a year. :)
MJ Cook (6 months ago)
I stopped using free shipping almost entirely. Most of my ebay sales are best offers. Ebay users actually make lower offers on my items that offer free shipping but I am only a small individual seller without a store. I have noticed that ebay sellers are also moving away from free shipping on many of the items I buy.
Tina Salas (6 months ago)
Maybe Amazon delivery will be cheaper. The new delivery system. Lol
RedWagon (6 months ago)
The same reason they do everything...money. ;)
maxinvasionleet (6 months ago)
Why would they help their competition
MENTES LIVRES (6 months ago)
No problem, I’ll start adding fitty cents to my final price.
Texas Rangers (6 months ago)
Mentes Livres Yep, that's what I'm doing. Buyers don't notice, so it's no big deal. People are freaking out too much.
Tim Wright (6 months ago)
This is possibly really going to hurt those selling cheap dvd movies and games. Some of them make less than $1 on each transaction already. Ouch!
Handpickedpartz (6 months ago)
The rates are already ridiculous. Shipping alone is the reason most sellers such as myself are leaving the game, it simply isnt worth the effort any longer. With all the freebies being pushed and forced and sellers cowering to demands, has ruined most markets. Actually when I see or hear the word free shipping, I laugh as there is no such thing.
Scarlet Spider (6 months ago)
Handpickedpartz ....Shipping charges will hurt you pretty bad if you sell cheaper items. I ran into the same problem years ago so I moved to selling more expensive items and charging for shipping. Most people that buy expensive items don’t care about an extra $7-$12 in shipping.
Bryan Biernat (6 months ago)
Yes definitely changing the game... shipping account for between 25-33% of my TOTAL expenses on any give month.. I am sure this is fairly common. How much higher can it go before online prices can no longer be an advantage over physical stores? Sure there will still be convenience shoppers.... but no doubt USPS will raise more next year.... other expenses... eBay pushing free returns.... buyers wanting free shipping and on and on.... can't anyone see this path is not sustainable without some major carnage.
Kris Yuret (6 months ago)
3 certainties in life: Death, taxes and postage rate increases. ;-)
ScoobyDigits (6 months ago)
Kind of kills the incentive to offer fast and free and with eBay telling us to lower prices I don't feel motivated to do that either. I also imagine ebay doesn't negotiate a better deal with the usps because they make money off the shipping labels even when it's for a return.
Mike C. (6 months ago)
Well, this is probably a good time to share this with the group in case anyone else has run into it...You know how when you create your label you have your return address and then a field for a "shipped from" zip code. So I have that populated with my own zip code. I'm out running errands in the next town so I drop my packages of there. Clerk starts giving me a hard time saying that because I have my home town zip on the label, thier PO "won't get the credit for doing the work". This person goes on to say that they have the right to refuse to accept my shipments. I get back home and call 800-ASK-USPS. They proceed to tell me that is total BS, that the workload is tracked by the electronic scans, and we can drop our prepaid packages off at any post office. The CS rep went on to say that if it happens again, to get the name of the the employee in question, their position, and the address of the PO where the shipment is being refused. Call back customer service with that information and "the matter will be dealt with". Don't get me wrong, I love the US postal service and get great service from the majority of postal workers I encounter. I just don't think it's wise for anyone to turn away paying customers.
Ray Sherman (3 months ago)
I had the same thing happen to me and it was only across town...like 2 miles. The postal employee had a problem because they wouldn't be getting credit. I thought it was odd.
Tommy Z (6 months ago)
That person's agenda was to have LESS packages at his/her post office which equates to LESS work for them to do.  Talk about lazy and unethical.  ALSO - did you know the average annual pay for a letter carrier here in the Midwest is 65k per year, and the ones that like to work overtime can often make $100k per year!  That's an awful lot of money for job that requires zero college ---  but I digress
Lauren J. Reale (6 months ago)
Well, I don't love most of them! I really hope you go ahead and do exactly what that person told you to do. I really hate it when these peons make up their own rules and try to bully you with them. I honestly hope they lose their damn job over it. How dare they try to push you around with "FAKE NEWS"!!! PLEASE TURN THE GUY IN.
Sleekcartim .sleekcartim (6 months ago)

Maybe we should lean toward ups and fedex then
Mike M (6 months ago)
'Cept last time USPS raised their rates FedEx an ups did too.
Jus10 Packman (6 months ago)
Maybe a dumb question but do you think it has ANYTHING to do with USPS losing so much business due to amazon moving towards their own shipping? I’m sure they have to make up for the losses somewhere
MyMason100 (6 months ago)
Not a loss for USPS , Amazon shipping was a big loss for them , just ask your usps carriers they are completely sick of 7 day workweeks. that's why amazon is scrambling for some other fools to take over that loss.
Gerald Grandfield (6 months ago)
USPS trying to replace the income they will lose once Amazon starts shipping all of their own stuff.
Bryan Biernat (6 months ago)
Yay for FREE returns
Kenneth Coleman (6 months ago)
If prices go up they go up for everyone on all platforms. My question is are they going to raise the Chinese subsidized special shipping rates? They can ship cheaper from China anywhere in the US than we can in the US. #whatsupusps
Keith O (6 months ago)
Trump is actually working on that (like him or not). USPS has no control over it for the most part (they did negotiate Epacket rates, but I think they are cheap because regular postage is so cheap so they had to make it cheap to be competitive with regular postage which they lose even more money on).
Ed Gein (6 months ago)
USPS has no say in the treaty that subsidizes dirt cheap shipping from China.
dmac909 dmac909 (6 months ago)
It's just money, no big deal, there is plenty of it.....Rich people and Corporations have it. They will not even notice any increases on how much anything cost and just keep living LARGE. It's evil.

FamilyOf5 Resellers (6 months ago)
Hey thanks for the update. I have only been reselling since last November and this will be the 2nd increase with USPS lol. As if we resellers didn't already have enough to deal with, with the way platforms are getting so difficult. I don't guess there is much one can do. Maybe look towards Fed Ex? I have personally never shipped FedEx so I have no clue how their rates are. Thanks for keeping us updated on everything. Just another bump in the road for us resellers. If there is a email or phone number to call to put our concern/complaint about this let us know. I will be glad to do what I can do. Not that it will do any good but I'm always down for standing up for the reselling community any way I can. Thanks again
Ed Gein (6 months ago)
Fedex rates are much better than USPS for heavy stuff and much worse for light stuff.
Pastime Perfection (6 months ago)
Awesome! So can we expect extended hours, more associates, shorter lines, less mistakes???? I’m not holding my breath. Another example of a government agency operating at a high level.....NOT!
Pastime Perfection (6 months ago)
MJ Cook Your right. I don’t think taxes are the way. With that said I don’t mind paying a higher cost because I am using the service as long as I see an improvement in the service I receive. This is good info to keep in mind when making decisions that impact your customers.
MJ Cook (6 months ago)
I understand your frustration but like most Americans I bet you'd rather not pay taxes to help support government programs like the UPS though right? They now operate a bit like a private enterprise so now they depend on shipping prices to cover the cost of operation.
Small Town Values (6 months ago)
Pastime Perfection this is true I waited yesterday afternoon forever while the piss-poor mgmt left the poor clerk all by himself to deal with a line of 25 people. Will have to scout and pick off time when not busy to go from now on. That is for sure.
Lincoln Causey (6 months ago)
Isn’t padded fre 6.90
Small Town Values (6 months ago)
Currently that is the price to print if you are not top-rated but if you buy postage on it at the post office it's $7.25.
Gerald Grandfield (6 months ago)
6.90 with the feebay discount but 7.25 retail. Now retail will be 8.00 with our discount probably will start costing us about 7.75 watch and see
naturegirl2110 (6 months ago)
So ebay keeps sending notifications to lower my item prices while "encouraging" promoted listing and USPS is raising price AGAIN. Makes sense 😕
Lara C (6 months ago)
Right?! Three things they’ve ‘recommended’ I lower to price to make the sale sold in three days - in the past week.
MyMason100 (6 months ago)
Don't lower prices , make sure algorithm is running thru entire U.S. or find other selling platforms . too many times my sales come grouped from a single region at a time , which is not what we pay for..

Ugh this hurts. I ship a lot 95% of items either in plain white envelopes or small mailers. Nice to know stamp prices are going up (sarcasm) and I guarantee First Class Package will go up.

I am curious to see how the discounts are going to work on the first class product now that it's zone based. With Ebay pushing us so hard towards Free Shipping, the variability will make it much harder for those who are dealing in low margin items to feel comfortable pricing that way. It will certainly be an interesting process to watch unfold over the next three months.

Dont ever do free shipping! You are cheating yourself.
