Just heard about a new fee from ebay from a Canadian seller called international shipping and import charge. Anyone have any info on this? Or even heard about this. Customer said if this is the case no more buying from ebay USA for them
If anyone gets tracking that says alert unable to deliver to address and you refunded them. They just got scammed by that buyer. Buyers can reroute package and get a new tracking (you won’t get the tracking) I told a couple people and they don’t believe me. Next time a package fails to deliver and it says alert call eBay. I can send screen shots. Rockstar flipped I tried emailing you to ask you to cover it with my screen shots. It has been attempted on me twice but since I already know it’s no problem for me. Has to be people that see this message that has a failed delivery where they refunded
My tracking to buyer said. Address may be unreadable or undeliverable, package forwarded. (Package appears to be gone after that, this is not a forward back to you) This is not usps this is the buyer who already received.
I'm not upset about the proposed USPS increases, I am frustrated that eBay isn't advocating for sellers (and buyers, really) when an increase happens. Mercari and Poshmark are both able to negotiate appropriate rates. I wish eBay would do the same.
As soon as I find another way - USPS will be cut out of my business. Some how some way. We're under attack. Again unfair advantage to China. Here's an idea - charge them more not less. Our leaders could give a shit about this, let's make them.
We can always start restricting our shipping and free returns to say 500 miles on 1st class. If done right ebay's algo will take into account the 1st class shipping variation and start ordering the results with the nearest sources/ lowest shipping cost highest on the results. Sort of condensing the national source region to more localized community source modules like in the early 1800's all due to increasing shipping costs.
Everyone that watches these needs to call and complain about the ebay fees 11% that we pay for the shipping costs. It is ridiculous to still be charging that when you have free shipping. The software could easily handle subtracting the labels that you print. The rep for ebay when I suggested that said "its not fair to those that don't print labels on ebay" YEAH IM SURE THATS THE REASON. EBAY WANTS TO BE FAIR. lol seriously ebay support is a joke now. Almost noone there has any power to actually do anything.
Also not sure if everyone noticed it says padded flat rate envelope moving to $8? Right now it cost 6.9 on ebay so hopefully it will cost about the same as that after discount. If not that is a huge increase much more than 6%. It seems like everytime we have a method to ship to save money they jacket the prices up. It used to be Priority mail region A boxes back in the day now for me I ship lots of items over 1 pound in the padded flat rate envelopes to save a lot of money. I wonder if someone has a sheet of the prices from the post office from say 7 years ago. They have to be 100% higher by now with this increase. I think 8 ounce first class was around 2 bucks? Am i wrong about that, I cant remember. Its over 3 now tho.
If EBay wants to keep playing the let’s look like Amazon game (free ship and free returns) they need to negotiate a flat first class discounted rate like Mercari does and exempt us sellers from zone based first class rates. If that is imposed on us, no one is going to keep doing free shipping.
So zone based first class shipping has got to mean the death of ‘free shipping’ listings, right? How would we calculate for that as sellers? Just charge everyone the max zone price? EBay will hopefully come up with some solution to this for us - they push free shipping but this will make it awfully tricky to price..
The best way to avoid this being a problem is to just sell higher priced items that are in high demand. I realize that not everyone has access to that kind of inventory and that’s why they sell cheaper stuff, but nothing lasts forever and the market is always going to be changing. For some that means they need to change their business model...and unfortunately for others it’s probably going to force them to leave online selling...it’s just the way it is.
Oí that is annoying, glad i dont Always do free shipping, as well barely do Shipping on my personal time. Sucks for people as you doing free shipping. Annoying padded flats going up. Was dissapointed when it jumped to 7.20 like using it on various items.
Ebay needs to drop the ten percent fee on shipping charges for those who buy exact postage via Ebay based on customer location. It would eliminate the prior issue of offering free product at exaggerated shipping rates to avoid fees, but help resellers absorb these price increases. They make money on our shipping anyway by keeping the difference in the usps negotiated rates and the discount they give us.
I think this is actually good news to a degree. Now all the clowns dumping their entire closet on ebay for $5+free shipping per item are either losing money and will give up or will have to raise prices. This will also help root out the losers who offer me $4 for a tommy bahama. Now nobody can get them a shirt for much under $10-12. The rising tide will lift all boats. I’m sick of idiots who think i can send them a pair of jeans with a $.50 stamp. At $8 for a padded flatrate, the cheapest pair on ebay is going to be $15+.
They want to play that game so don't offer free shipping let the buyer pay for the shipping. They know online shopping is rising by the second so theirs extra money to be made and their capitalizing on it.
We all need to contact ebay to get them to make sure they are updating pricing for calculated shipping!!! Right now if you do calculated shipping for First Class it cuts you off at 13 oz. but we are allowed to go up to 16 oz. Ebay is automatically charging Priority rates of minimum $6.70 for First Class packages weighing 15 oz. Sooo not ok. Buyers will think we're doing it. I do calculated shipping because of these high postal rates so the buyers know it is not me but $6.70 for a First Class package over 13 oz is too much and its going to blow back on any of us using it.
It's time to think about possible strategies now. If you're doing free returns for TRS has it really been worth it? Enough to eat the price increases? I say meh, TRS may not be worth it and go back to charging shipping, though I may do the option to pass on the ebay discount. Especially since it feels like 90% of my sales are to the other coast. Oh and @rockstarflipper thanks for the sonic speed update, we'd all have heart attacks if they ever actually lowered rates. LOL
Poskhmark has the one price up to 5 lbs deal with USPS and thats little company compared to ebay I would think ebay would have more pull idk
BTW went to ship a 23 lb painting and all i get is UPS option no way out!!! So frustrating where is the reg label page...just put in a call to ebay... major time wasted, anyone get this?
Amazon and others need to put these clowns out of business. Late packages, lost packages, same service, higher prices? This is not inflation, this is a company losing money trying to stick it to customers.
There is no such thing as free shipping on ebay. Just another gimmick ebay uses in my opinion.I wish everyone would stop using the free shipping option all together.I don't use it myself. Also has anyone ever noticed ebay started charging final valve fees on shipping because some sellers where making a profit on shipping?.Isn't that what ebay is guilty of doing themselves?Making a profit on shipping costs?
We ship a lot by USPS Ground. They are zone based. Shipped one yesterday from Florida to Washington. Cost $27. If it had stayed within our own zone it would have been around $10 and upgraded to Priority. Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico rates and delivery times can be worse. Some take almost a month to get to the destination. We will find a way to make these new rates work without causing too much pain.
They scalp us on shipping, yet China ships for pennies. My husband recently got scammed on eBay by a Chinese drop shipper in California on a memory card. He asked the guy to give him his money back and they offered half. Hubby went to eBay who said he had to return the item at OUR cost, then get half a refund. If I sold a fraudulent item eBay would send them a label at MY EXPENSE, not theirs. China's shipping rates are one reason we have to pay through the nose to ship.
Question is it legal for ebay to charge a fee on shipping, it's a service they don't provide so how can they charge for it, can you please look into this and see if we all can sue for the years they have charged us for this illegal fee?
I don't usually lose $ on shipping because I do calculated. I also offer the option to ship via FedEx. FedEx is farther from my place, but worth it to get the sale. Thanks Casey, for always keeping us informed!!!
I don't know what americans are complaining about at least you have a flat rate option for under 10 dollars. Our small flat rate box starts at 14.99 in Canada and only ships IN CANADA for that price. Wed have no prepaid padded envalopes. I shipped a item from Toronto area to USA the other day and it was 17.99 for me to ship 8 wireless chargers I only charged 49.99 for the entire lot of 8 and 15 dollars shipping. Here in Ontario we take the hit just to stay in the game on shipping. Id do anything for a flat rate envelope for 6-7-8-9 even 10 dollars!
I'm going to put in my description a little blurb that the USPS ship prices are increasing in 2019. So at least the customer knows why they pay shipping.
Isn't this what Trump proposed the USPS do?
How is it going to effect China shipping? I notice that some of the items I used to buy from China, like ink cartridges has doubled in price and they are charging shipping.
Time to get a boatload of flat rate priority envelopes.
Warning! Clicking on the the pinned link may cause upset stomach and headaches. It also may make you feel like you are having hallucinations, but you're not, because those are the real USPS price increases. Read the pinned link at your own risk. :-)
I stopped using free shipping almost entirely. Most of my ebay sales are best offers. Ebay users actually make lower offers on my items that offer free shipping but I am only a small individual seller without a store. I have noticed that ebay sellers are also moving away from free shipping on many of the items I buy.
The rates are already ridiculous. Shipping alone is the reason most sellers such as myself are leaving the game, it simply isnt worth the effort any longer. With all the freebies being pushed and forced and sellers cowering to demands, has ruined most markets. Actually when I see or hear the word free shipping, I laugh as there is no such thing.
Handpickedpartz ....Shipping charges will hurt you pretty bad if you sell cheaper items. I ran into the same problem years ago so I moved to selling more expensive items and charging for shipping. Most people that buy expensive items don’t care about an extra $7-$12 in shipping.
Yes definitely changing the game... shipping account for between 25-33% of my TOTAL expenses on any give month.. I am sure this is fairly common. How much higher can it go before online prices can no longer be an advantage over physical stores? Sure there will still be convenience shoppers.... but no doubt USPS will raise more next year.... other expenses... eBay pushing free returns.... buyers wanting free shipping and on and on.... can't anyone see this path is not sustainable without some major carnage.
Kind of kills the incentive to offer fast and free and with eBay telling us to lower prices I don't feel motivated to do that either. I also imagine ebay doesn't negotiate a better deal with the usps because they make money off the shipping labels even when it's for a return.
Well, this is probably a good time to share this with the group in case anyone else has run into it...You know how when you create your label you have your return address and then a field for a "shipped from" zip code. So I have that populated with my own zip code. I'm out running errands in the next town so I drop my packages of there. Clerk starts giving me a hard time saying that because I have my home town zip on the label, thier PO "won't get the credit for doing the work". This person goes on to say that they have the right to refuse to accept my shipments. I get back home and call 800-ASK-USPS. They proceed to tell me that is total BS, that the workload is tracked by the electronic scans, and we can drop our prepaid packages off at any post office. The CS rep went on to say that if it happens again, to get the name of the the employee in question, their position, and the address of the PO where the shipment is being refused. Call back customer service with that information and "the matter will be dealt with". Don't get me wrong, I love the US postal service and get great service from the majority of postal workers I encounter. I just don't think it's wise for anyone to turn away paying customers.
That person's agenda was to have LESS packages at his/her post office which equates to LESS work for them to do. Talk about lazy and unethical. ALSO - did you know the average annual pay for a letter carrier here in the Midwest is 65k per year, and the ones that like to work overtime can often make $100k per year! That's an awful lot of money for job that requires zero college --- but I digress
Well, I don't love most of them! I really hope you go ahead and do exactly what that person told you to do. I really hate it when these peons make up their own rules and try to bully you with them. I honestly hope they lose their damn job over it. How dare they try to push you around with "FAKE NEWS"!!! PLEASE TURN THE GUY IN.
Not a loss for USPS , Amazon shipping was a big loss for them , just ask your usps carriers they are completely sick of 7 day workweeks. that's why amazon is scrambling for some other fools to take over that loss.
If prices go up they go up for everyone on all platforms. My question is are they going to raise the Chinese subsidized special shipping rates? They can ship cheaper from China anywhere in the US than we can in the US. #whatsupusps
Trump is actually working on that (like him or not). USPS has no control over it for the most part (they did negotiate Epacket rates, but I think they are cheap because regular postage is so cheap so they had to make it cheap to be competitive with regular postage which they lose even more money on).
Hey thanks for the update. I have only been reselling since last November and this will be the 2nd increase with USPS lol. As if we resellers didn't already have enough to deal with, with the way platforms are getting so difficult. I don't guess there is much one can do. Maybe look towards Fed Ex? I have personally never shipped FedEx so I have no clue how their rates are. Thanks for keeping us updated on everything. Just another bump in the road for us resellers. If there is a email or phone number to call to put our concern/complaint about this let us know. I will be glad to do what I can do. Not that it will do any good but I'm always down for standing up for the reselling community any way I can. Thanks again
MJ Cook Your right. I don’t think taxes are the way. With that said I don’t mind paying a higher cost because I am using the service as long as I see an improvement in the service I receive. This is good info to keep in mind when making decisions that impact your customers.
I understand your frustration but like most Americans I bet you'd rather not pay taxes to help support government programs like the UPS though right? They now operate a bit like a private enterprise so now they depend on shipping prices to cover the cost of operation.
Pastime Perfection this is true I waited yesterday afternoon forever while the piss-poor mgmt left the poor clerk all by himself to deal with a line of 25 people. Will have to scout and pick off time when not busy to go from now on. That is for sure.
Don't lower prices , make sure algorithm is running thru entire U.S. or find other selling platforms . too many times my sales come grouped from a single region at a time , which is not what we pay for..
I am curious to see how the discounts are going to work on the first class product now that it's zone based. With Ebay pushing us so hard towards Free Shipping, the variability will make it much harder for those who are dealing in low margin items to feel comfortable pricing that way. It will certainly be an interesting process to watch unfold over the next three months.
eBay needs to negotiate for lower shipping rates. Discounts as small as 5% on padded flat rates are unacceptable. There is no reason eBay cannot leverage their size to get us better discounts, at USPS or elsewhere.
Lets not forget they get almost 10 percent final value fee on shipping as well it is total highway robbery. But is not like your going to be mailing it any other way for most stuff so they have you by the gonads. If you ask me actual postage cost when buying the label by no means should have any fee attached to it. I suppose delivering your own mail just is not gonna work though, now is it?
I've seen it suggested Ebay gets better rates but keeps the difference between the commercial rate and what they get for themselves. Not sure if that is true, but it is pretty unlikely they can't get better rates than the standard commercial rate given the volume they of postage purchased through them.
