I understand not wanting to have the open return. You did the right thing to put the ball in the buyers court asking for photos of measurements. Be patient next time! Nobody can fault you for calling bs when you know your right!

Just got scammed for the first time today on a Bose receiver , they opted for a return, i just refunded them after that checked the buyers feedback sure enough it’s was zero somebody made an account just for a few item . Learned a good lesson today never refund a buyer without checking there profile .

it happens to me and I have been bothered by this for a decade. I used to be so angry, couldnt even sleep at night by the anger. over recent years, I just started to give up the situation. when buyer open a case, I just refund immediately, and block the buyer. try to think its part of ebay fee. at least a lot lesser anger now. but still whenever buyer purchase a lot of quantity, I am so scared. I should be just happy for it, but its so scary. anyone can buy free on ebay, it is a paradise for scammers.

That’s not a scam lol - that’s just you being petty about a return. Do returns suck? Yes. Do buyers lie? Yes. Is it worth the defect and possible negative feedback? No. Just accept the return and move on. You should budget 3-5% of your annual revenue for “loss” such as this. You arguing over 2 inches seems a bit childish. I’m a top rated seller as well and when I get these little petty returns I don’t even blink an eye. Look at all the time you wasted on the phone and such - that’s more money loss than what your losing on shipping. 🤦‍♂️

eBay NEVER stands behind the SELLER.   I got Scammed on 1929 PACKARD wheels!  I sold them to a buyer in OHIO. I sent them to the Buyer. He said they were LOUSY and only good for Boat Anchors.    He NEVER SENT THEM BACK.  I had to REFUND him $125.00 and I had paid $75.00 UPS shipping.    I got SCREWED by $200.00!!!!!!!!!   I told eBay to FUCK OFF!

I'm in Finance. I have to call various companies almost daily with various "issues". I have absolutely noticed (just in the last 2 years or so) that "Customer Service" folks are getting horrible!! I was on the phone yesterday with one trying to resolve a problem. I kid you not, it was like talking to a tree!! No personality, mumbled on the phone, no energy, no help, etc. This is/was NOT an isolated incident....it happens almost daily for me!! Even Supervisors are getting bad!! I HATE to say this, but I definitely see it with the younger, millennial generation!! They sound almost robotic on the phone and they just-don't-care!!!!!

I just got scammed by a buyer named " rmutha" Works for a company called Aurus. Bought my item then opened a INAD and sent me back a completely different broken item. They will be outted on every platform available. Sellers beware block this dude.

Success Chronicles Yes they should treat everyone kindly. However, in some instances it’s good to know what kind of reputation you’re working with. I have 100% positive feedback, and if my buyer has zero with negative feedback they should take that into account.

I'm in the same position right now. I won't go into the story in depth but the buyer purchase a pair of Berghaus walking boots from me and gave me a positive feedback with the opening word - "Perfect" Two days later I get an email from him saying his daughter had pointed out that both soles were coming off. I mean he didn't see such damage when he received them? Anyway, I did accept a return because I thought there was no choice. I will probably get his old boots in the return. Anyway, to cut a long story short I read an article in the Telegraph (a British National Newspaper) see link which slams eBay's money back guarantee. see link. I too have now written to the editor and to the author of the article with my tale of woe. [email protected] like a bull dog and once i get a hold I never let go. I get trouble with clothing in the sense that buyers lie to have the return for free. Taught me to just do free returns and save the hassle. We mostly sell Toys now and don't get hardly any returns. But we love toys and have a passion for them so I think it helps. The bad days suck and really effects your work ethic and your day. Gladly they are not too often for all of us xx

I'm starting to think Ebay is horrible for sellers with all these horror stories. If a buyer knows how to rig the system they can get a lot of stuff free. Buy an ink cartridge and send a used one back on a Free return. Walla! A free ink cartridge! Lovely system Ebay has there... Bunch of communists.

Here in the uk it’s not allowed to charge a restocking fee .many buyers will not open a return if they don’t like an item because they know A the seller will refuse if a private seller (business sellers have to accept returns no matter what the reason within 14 days ) B They also know the seller will take a restocking fee so open a not as described case . I don’t know if this seller is selling under private or business but they should be registered as a business seller as that’s clearly what they are, which gives buyers different rights. Conservatively I’ve phoned Ebay CS over 500 times over the last few years and they have never been rude to me. I wonder if someone does not agree with you you class that as being rude . Lastly the refund of shipping costs and fees you got back from the Ebay manager came from EBays pocket not the buyer as a courtesy refund probably because they got sick of listening to you

Ralli they do train their customer service people correctly. The ones who are not in the US are trained to never assist the seller for any reason. I have literally had one tell me that word for word.

Hey trust me I'm on your side however I am not an ebay seller and I know how hard it is to deal with ebay support. But you listed this as a SCAM and I still have yet to see what the SCAM actually is. could you please explain to me how it is the buyer benefited from this? I agree it seems more likely the buyers fault and you should have got your restocking fee not have to pay return shipping and possibly no negetive dings, but I don't see any real evidence of a scam unless you are say that the buyer after purchase had buyers remorse so they cheated the system to avoid losing money? IMO this is not a scam to directly rip you off at the start. this would be more of unfair or slanted practice to game the system when the buy is not 100% satisfied which seem obvious to me they weren't. maybe probing deeper as to their dissatisfaction would have skewed the odds more to your favor.

Ryan, I have worked in several call centers doing customer service....large and small centers. When ever someone asked to speak to a supervisor, we were told by management ....DO NOT call a manager/supervisor.....get a senior rep to take the call....and that is what we did...you probably didn't even talk to a supervisor/'manager.....but glad it worked out for you.....this is just an FYI from a former customer service rep....:)

Just had same thing happen but I did not accept the return because the buyer had no case, ebay just fully refunded buyer and I have not received the goods that the buyer wanted to return. I feel robbed.

Just an update on the end result, spoke to the American department of Ebay, had to call them in the afternoon, otherwise you get someone in the Philippines who don’t really care. They will just award the buyer without reading any of the messages, item listing etc just to close the case and move onto the next one. So I called the American department and explained nicely what had happened and the awesome lady was just like “Noooooo no no, the buyer was way wrong! I’m going to reverse this and no one can then reverse my decision, I’ll fully refund you and remove the negative feedback the buyer left!” So as you say it really does depend on who you get. Was sooo chuffed, would have loved to see the buyers face when he got the notifications that it had been awarded in my favour.

there is NOTHING wrong with leaving a return open. as long as your comments left for buyer are air-tight; you will win on escalation. I sometimes put in my air tight comment....then call ebay and ask their opinion...if they are on my side I will ask CS rep to escalate on spot. Done this dozens of times. Also...somewhat known secret....many times ebay refunds buyer AND also makes you seller whole....telling neither party (buyer nor seller) that both have "prevailed." that's a fine result also.
This is how it works...they want u frustrated so u get to talk to the minion with no power.....hopefully u will go away frustrated and they win...ebay at its best....that is why it spun out your way....the first person is just a wall... Climb over it...peace out

Ebay moved operations outside of NA to Asia and that lead to bad customer service. I did have wrong resolution process as a buyer, but was resolved property by higher level manager. To bad for ebay.

Feebay uses overseas contractors to handle most of this. English is not the first language of the employees. They have cue cards in front of them and can give only the cookie cutter responses on the cue cards. When you ask for a STUPIDvisor, they must get approval from their STUPIDvisor to let you talk to a Feebay STUPIDvisor. Once they get the approval, they have to transfer you back to the US or Canada. Feebay lets buyers post false statements in their negative feedback and will not remove the false statements even when you can prove that they are false. Feebay takes the buyer's side far too often. Buyers don't pay fees; sellers do. Feebay should take care of those who pay its freight: the sellers.

Part and parcel of doing business, if you did get the exact item back then why are you really describing and portraying this as a scam? Love your video's guys but remember the customer is always right, accept it as a small % acknowledge and move on it's gonna! gonna! happen. The buyer deep down was probably and most likely looking for another reason/motive to get out of the transaction after all (buyer emotion), who knows why? and for what reason? but who cares? As mentioned love the vids keep'em coming, oh and pls pls lose the re-stocking fee-the benefits definitely outweigh the negatives (why are you so privileged) consumer perception mindset.   All the best... and keep rockin it!

eBay has engaged in an organized manner to place roadblocks in the way of legitimate sellers seeking positive resolution when defrauded by ebay. Only the most tenacious people who dedicate considerable time will receive adequate recourse. Insurance companies have long operated in the same manner by denying legitimate claims until the policy holder jumps through numerous hoops. They, like eBay, profit from people not willing to fight them.

I'll tell you a little secret eBay couldn't care less if you are top rated seller selling thousands of cotillion the million the gazillions of items or if you're just selling one item they couldn't care less the same thing that happened to you happened to me back in the day and they actually sided with the buyer exactly what happened with you and try and try and try as can be nothing ever happened to the point where I actually have to close my eBay account and reopen it that's what happened anyway eBay is I never buy anything on eBay since then I never do anything with eBay since then my reopening of my account was a complete waste of time if any seller has that problem I suggest flying away from eBay flying away from eBay running away from eBay that's what I am suggesting here cuz otherwise they're going to keep doing this and keep doing this and keep doing this it's not going to be good for sellers anyway that's my comment and my suggestion is to you is if it happens again consider other options thanks God bless

We had the same situation with negative feedback removal we spoke to customer advisor and she just said feedback is customer opinion and she can't remove it as she doesn't want to lose her job.. lol.. we rang eBay back got thru to different advisor she immediately removed it saying customer is wrong and we are not at fault..

1. eBay is a haven for scam artists. 2. In a dispute, PayPal chooses buyer over seller EVERY TIME - zero seller support or protection. 3. Lesson learned? - Join the scammers - no matter what you do or whose livelihood you cheat them out of, YOU as a buyer are protected by eBay and PayPal! 4. Yup.... eBay and PayPal - Complicit SCAMMING SCUMBAGS! eBay's seller protection policy clearly states: THE BUYER IS ALWAYS RIGHT AND THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THE SELLER CAN DO ABOUT IT. If the buyer scams you... eBay and PayPal will ALWAYS side with the buyer and give them a full refund AND they will also allow them to keep the item (or at most the buyer will return the item damaged or just send you an empty box).

I'm glad you at least got what you did....eBay always,always protects the buyer..if you had no return Policy they would still force it on you! They say they won't exist without buyers and they care little About sellers...they know the seller needs the format. I sell quite a bit on them...with 100%....and it's usually painful to deal with customers! eBay....review your policies!

I had the same thing happen with an xbox 360 controller. The buyer mailed back their broken one and claimed I sold it that way. Luckily it was a low dollar item, but eBay did side with them even though I provided evidence that there was different serial numbers on the controllers. That's the only time I've ever run into problems selling on eBay.

Ryan, in these types of situations, do you worry about getting negative feedback or losing the customer? How do you decide what is best practices in these situations ?

I have dealt with scammers on ebay and beat them, only to have them then pull the same bullshit with PayPal.

eBay doesn't give a damn about the seller!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had a scammer FAKE damage on a guitar. it was NEW! He did this to 4 other people I found out by tracking down prior sellers. I offered a partial refund, case was on hold for weeks, then all of a sudden eBay sent e-mail and I had 5 days to respond. Didn't see it, on 7th day responded and they refunded buyer and let them KEEP my guitar! He had prior issues with the same thing and I also sent pictures to eBay. I was told they do not look at pictures!???????? Because anyone can photoshop. I said LOOK at FEEDBACK, he did same thing to someone else. They said we don't look at feedback? I was like WTF? After 6 calls and a manager, I got it resolved in a LUCKY once in a lifetime way from eBay. The guy still got all his $$ back and a FREE Guitar. EBay doesn't care about the seller and they have things set up to where scammer buyers KNOW how to buy things and lie and get an item free, steal item and send back a fake, or get a partial refund. eBay's Fees are outrageous. Sellers have a hard time making money

I got a return after the 30 day expiration on eBay but the buyer went to PayPal and opened a item not as described. How do you deal with something like that? The buyer clearly took advantage of the PayPal policy. I felt that ebay didn't honor their policy. And I found out that PayPal has a 6 month return policy if the item is not as described. That's to extreme for the part time seller..for a big seller it wouldn't hurt but the small seller may not have that money 3 months after the purchase.

I have talked to ebay many times, I apologize for sounding sexist but I have never had trouble talking to a male manager/rep... also I almost always have trouble resolving my issue with a female rep.

I don't sell on ebay anymore, too many scams going around and its a giant headache dealing with them.

Lucky for you. I just had a buyer lie about a new sealed item, get to keep the item and got their money back. So I got a ding on my account as item not as described and they left me my first negative in 19 years. EBay’s supervisor told me tough shit. So a new buyer with zero feedback and two month old account can scam have a successful scam, and still messed up your account.
