I see no reason why my oversized tees with logos and my sandals are not allowed just because I cross some age number. I don’t look any more childish than anyone else wearing this stuff. You are just selling expensive clothes. If you want to pay my bills then go for it. But there is nothing wrong with loose clothing or footwear that is forbidden just because I get a social security check. Ageism and marketing. No actual useful advice. Although I would suggest you both need a decent hair stylist.
Fabulous advice, concise and to the point. To those who question the leather jacket: Ashley is making a point of a suggestive more subdued version of leather in suede, that coincides with subdued colors and proper fitting denim and shirts: think Daniel Craig style. Read her advice as a whole and how it flows in presenting one consistent stream of excellent suggestions for a refined gentleman. Ashley is fabulous and there's a reason why celebrities seek her out. You go girl! xo
A persons comfort level will define what is worn, more than people like you. Faux pauxs happen @ all ages, and its in the eye of the beholder. You mean like a Rolex, w/e, is out of bounds? Have you seen "producer michael"? "An older gentleman"?
First: I believe these two people are much too young to know anything about older people. I am a 65 year old guy. I retired at age 57 and immediately threw away all my button down shirts and shirt with collars. I also got rid of all my Dress Pants and dress shoes. I donated all them to a church. I now exclusively wear T-shirts, Blue Jeans and White Sketchers Brand Jogging shoes every day. I also prefer not to wear socks. I am in favor of T-Shirts which have Motorcycle, Firearms, and Rock Stars on them. I also wear my T-Shirts hanging out side of my Blue Jeans to cover up my Concealed Hand-Gun which is carried in a Holster on my belt. I never liked Blue-Jeans with rips and slices in them for any men and believe they only look good on women. I also do not like these long knee length baggy shorts that men wear now-a-days that to me look like Dresses. I prefer shorts to be short and tight like they wore in the 1970's and 1980's - like Tom Selleck wore in the TV Show - Magnum P.I. I also do not like Flip-Flops and Sandals. I think a guy wearing Sandals makes him Look European or like a Grand-Pa. Also I prefer a Leather Jacket. I wear the Flight Jacket Style of Jackets. I own both the Air Force style with the Leather Collar and the Navy Style with the Fur Collar. I disagree strongly with their choice of suede jackets.
Also it depends on the shape the 50 year old is in! A lot of 50 even 60 year old men are weight training, doing light crossfit, boxing, cardio training etc and have amazing physiques!! So even if you are in your 20s and 30's but rotund or out of shape wearing certain clothing is also a no no even in the younger years.
not wear leather jackets? hahaha try tell george clooney and brad pitt that! nowadays 50s dudes r in better shape than ever before. it is not the age but if ur lean n in good shape, u can look good in almost anything.
What’s with their opinion on getting rid of leather jackets when one hits middle age? Really? I’m 57 and have been wearing my same biker jacket for 30 years....and no, it is not too small. I get compliments all the time on its bonafide aged distressed look and how good I look in it. I agree with most of these commentators view on looking your age, but leather jackets look good on most any guy at most any age.
i'm 52 and I like to wear sarongs you will probably say to get rid of them but I wear them because they are easy for me to wear and are comfortable...I've worn sarongs ever since I was 16 and I still do I love to wear them ...
Good ideas. However, the prime factor is the shape of the older guy's body. The better the shape, the more he can get away with. Can you imagine telling Karl Lagerfeld, at 83, that he should not wear slim jeans? LOL!
Tip to her - ditch the phone for 5 minutes. Younger guys with pimp "bling" & a bottle of Ax aroma are OK? Ditto for stupid "distressed" clothing, i.e. holes (on women too) unless you're painting. Sneakers/running shoes are going to be clean or less so. Not only is this couple's "context" obnoxiously smug & pretentious, but the woman's voice couldn't be more nasal & grating; her delivery inspires no confidence in anything she might opine on. Why are they arbiters or avatars of anything? "Fashion is for those without style" goes an adage.
Nothing distressed? I'm 55 and my go to jacket is an original 1953 Levi's 507XX Type 2 (older than me) and it is naturally distressed as you would expect from a 66 year old jacket. It's the coolest jacket even for an over 50s guy.
I'm 65 years old and i wear leather jackets. And i don't feel anything wrong about it. I'm sorry but you sound like a boring couple of mormons. And i don't want to be obnoxious..but that's the way i see it.😎🇵🇷
I got a comment for the talking head . Everey one doesn't want to look like an wlder Statesman I have a masters degree in business. So what ? Just because one has been around a while doesn't mean they gotta look or act like they are ready for the dirt sleep!!!!!
I'm 70 yrs. I dress for me. I got my style which I call biker rocker dude I really could give a flying fuck less who approves and who don't. I wear a lot of leather and jewelery Why because I paid my dues. Spent all my adult life being prim and proper. Let me also add the ladies in my life all compliment on the way I dress and my style. They are mostly in their mid thirties. By the way I get these compliments from ladies of all ages.Incidentaly I dress the way I want that makes me feel good and you can never ever have to many leather jackets coats whateverO K
I'm 65 my sense of smell may have deminished but I can smell the horse manure in this video. You'd be more useful teaching young uns style lessons. Or better still. Someone who knows about life at all to teach them.
Most of the men I see in their 60's and above are REALLY out of shape. So they tend to wear loose fitting clothes to mask the layers of fat. How close fitting the clothes you wear really depends on how fit you are. I just turned 67 and can get away with wearing a compression fit shirt. I have been working out .since I was 32 and adhere to a strict diet. I guess good genes from my parents have helped too.
I wear whatever I want. I think some younger folks think older people who look stylish take attention away from them. It's as if they're screaming, you had your time let me have mine. To those who think this way I hope you will look as good in your clothes as I do when you turn 50 #
WOW. I stumbled across this video. NO leather jackets? WTF? I wear skinny jeans. they dont suffocate me but I get a ton of compliments in them. I love t shirts and I like wearing phrases on the t shirts and vibrant colors. Just because youre in your 50's and 60s doesnt mean you're dead. It seems that younger guys can wear whatever the hell they want. Often they look awful with distressed t shirts jeans and everything in between, and we are being told to look like tasteless watercress sandwiches. Why dont you just put us out back like an old horse and just shoot us? Suede rather than leather? What am I an English school teacher? As Long as I take care of my body and look good in what I wear, I am wearing it. You are trying to make me look like I'm 80.
That really is incredible, a couple of virtual kids trying to tell older established men how they should dress. Please! We dress the way we want because we've earned the right to dress the way we want. Maybe a little valuable advice to those two, stick with telling kids how to dress and leave the older, wiser generation alone. The leather jacket issue has to be the most ridiculous thing they said. I have a biker jacket that I've been wearing for nearly 35 years that looks better today than it did the day I bought it and it looks great on an older man or a younger man. Leather is timeless. Light, heavy, crisp, distressed. It's all good in a casual atmosphere.
They are giving out style advice , and insulted their targeted audience...maybe, they should take an etiquette class...no, they SHOULD take a class...people need to realize in this day and age, I person can Express himself/herself anyway they want...don't let anyone tell you "how you should dress, who you should love, where you should go, etc."..if it makes you happy, live your life the way you want, and to hell with the naysayers!... who really don't look good at all!...
Liked your father better in the casual shorts outfit actually. In US ageism is prevalent and ingrained as the superficial corporate culture reigns.
You go to Asia, middle east, or even Europe and they will laugh at the disposable over 50 syndrome in US.
One thing these two are failing to realize is that gentlemen over 50 wear what they want. They don't care about looking younger, they just want to wear what they are in the mood for. It's like someone in their 60s driving a convertible. Not trying to look young, but can afford it and they want to, period... For these two to speak as if they are authorities for older men is like a man in his 50s or 60s telling people in their 20s what styles to wear. (If I did, I'd tell anyone over 16 to turn their ball cap around... ) I'll wear what I want, and if I have a question, I'll ask my wife...
Tried finding clothes in the big and tall section that aren't designed for younger men. The selections for anyone over 40 is nearly impossible. I refuse to try and make do with standard sizes wearing one size larger only to have it too big in spots and too short in length. I've learned to try and wear classic items and conservative colors.
