When they were teenagers in the late nineties, Kerry Seager and Annika Sanders wanted clothes that would make them look unique, but they didn't have any money so they started remaking old clothes into new styles. Today, their Junky Stylings line has been labeled "high fashion street couture" by Vogue and has been worn by celebrities like Gwen Stefani, Kate Moss, Sadie Frost and Sienna Miller. Partly responsible for bringing attention to the current movement for upcyling, or refashioning, clothing, Seager and Sanders also perform wardrobe surgery for clients who bring in old clothing they want to make new again. They upcycled one of Colin Firth's moth-eaten suits for his wife Livia to wear at the "King's Speech" premiere in Paris. Wanting to help others re-make old clothes new again, Sanders and Seager are eager to give away their secrets. In their book Junky Styling: Wardrobe Surgery, they not only document their personal journey, but they offer a how to section full of details so readers can make some of their trademark designs, like a suit-sleeve scarf or a "shirt wrap halter top". In a very open-source spirit, they have published patterns in The Guardian. With the step-by-step instructions for their popular "fly top", they show you in six steps- with just trousers, T-shirt, scissors, pins and needle and thread- how to "turn any pair of trousers into a fitted top with a wide structured neckline and a zip detail". We visited their shop in London's Hackney district to see an operation in process. junkystyling.co.uk Original story: http://faircompanies.com/videos/view/operation-wardrobe-upcycled-clothing-in-londons-hackney/

Traditional Pakistani dressing also shares similarities between the ethnic groups of central Asia and ethnicities of the Iranian plateau such as the Turkic ethnic groups (i.e. Khazakhs, Uzbeks, Turkmens) and Iranic ethnic groups (Tajiks, Khorasani Persians and Pashtoons), that have been separate from the cultures of modern day Pakistan during the Durand agreement between Afghanistan and the British raj. Nigeria's Next Top Designer is an initiative of Africa fashion week London, Ebony Worths and Mahogany productions, a United Kingdom production company which has been organising and producing events for over 15 years. The growing of fad and attraction for African inspired designs globally and the level of creativity displayed by Nigerian designers at the 2012 edition of AFWL, provides ample inspiration for the emergence of Nigeria's Next Top Designer, NNTD. It is a talent hunt show, aimed at promoting African inspired designs from Nigeria and fostering the promotion and development of aspiring Nigerian designers on the world stage. A magnificent platform for emerging designers, it is a talent hunt show of a special kind, aimed at bringing together various fashion designers from across the country to showcase the richness of the Nigerian fashion Culture and fabrics. The project will provide overall management for the distinguished designers, help them develop their skills through our various workshops and trainings. NNTD will instill pride in Nigerian fashion designs, promote the creativity of our talented designers, and celebrate the diversity of the Nigerian fashion culture and its collective contribution to the fashion industry. It will pave the way for the expansion of Nigerian designers into the global fashion industry, through our international partners. After eons of deliberating and pondering on how to go about the project, a branded vision has now been conceptualized. The global fashion market has seen a remarkable growth in African inspired designs. Looking around us today, majority of mainstream designers have adopted the new African urban look in their designs. Common and well known designs include the popular Ankara used mostly by Nigerians, which is now finely crafted in unique and jaw dropping styles. In this ever growing attraction for African inspired designs, Nigeria's Next Top Designer arrives on the scene. NNTD will be a reality show which will include an audition for designers across the country. The competition will be open to aspiring, emerging, existing and new designers. It will be a cutting-edge competition that aims to find the best emerging designer in Nigeria. Participants will include fashion designers, textile designers, accessory designers, footwear and handbag designers, jewellers and milliners. There will be designers representing the cultural fashion scene from all parts of Nigeria. A pool of 1000 new/emerging designers will be auditioned across the country. They will then be whittled down to 36 eventually by a panel of judges made up of fashion experts. The successful applicants will take part in various tasks to display their creativity. They will be groomed and mentored by our in house guest judges. First the emerging designers will work in groups under the supervision of mentors and then as individuals to display their creativity in making fashion items. They will then be trained on how to turn their creative ideas into self sustenance. The winner gets an all expense paid trip to UK for the African Fashion Week London AFWL 2014, goes home with a cash prize, equipment and a workshop and showroom space at the AFWL concession store for one year. Their collections will also be shown at African Fashion Week Nigeria AFWN 2013. There will be a lot of public and audience involvement. Viewers will be allowed to comment but the final winners will be chosen by the judges. At the heart of NNTD is the willingness to showcase the works of Nigerian designers to an international audience and also to work with them to build sustainable brands. We will be looking for creative and unique talent that lives and breathes fashion to become the NNTD. There will be a minimum entry criteria and those who do not meet them will not be considered.

People keep thinking of ideas for designing their living rooms in a different way. If you love nature, and want to design your living room accordingly, then you could try a theme for country style living rooms. Here are some ideas to help you design country style living rooms. Colors play an important role in country style living rooms. Colors are important for everything, as you can even change the look of your entire room with the choice of color. A common idea for country style living rooms is to paint paneled walls. This will add a touch of country-side décor. Paint the paneling white if you are following a design for country style living rooms. Some people think that if they want to design their living room in country style, then they have to choose floral colors. Floral colors and a floral design can be added to add a touch of country living style, but you can also use white to paint the paneling. White goes really well with floral shades that are placed in front of it. The entire mix will be a great idea for country style living rooms. When you are choosing furniture items, such as sofas, rugs and even curtains for windows, go for bold prints. Bold prints in a floral color and pattern are an integral part of country style living rooms. You can mix the patterns and floral colors for a beautiful look throughout the room. It will add a touch of contemporary country life style to your living room, and it makes the living room look lively and 'fresh'. You can also work with designs and ideas for classic country style living rooms. Try to use items that are an indication of the classic country life style, such as fireplaces or classy furniture designs. Add a touch of formal country style to your living room by using a chesterfield sofa, or a bookcase of classic country style. You have to learn and understand the color patterns and designs of country style. Try to choose hot colors and large prints, as they will add a bold touch to your living room. When working with design ideas for country styles, it is not just the choice of colors and patterns that matters, you also have to be specific in your choice of furniture design. For instance, some items are necessary when following design ideas for country style living rooms, such as wing armchairs, while other items are not. Similarly, choosing comfortable furniture is important when implementing country style living room design ideas. The idea of country style living rooms is not only about the design and look, you have to add comfort and coziness to your living room as this is the true essence of designs for country style living rooms. One last bit of advice, if you are following designs for country style living rooms, is that country style does not have to be old and antique. It can be country, yet modern. The simple choice of colors, as well as furniture design, can add a touch of modern style to country style living rooms. Manish Arora is the first and only Indian designer who has completed 14 shows in Paris in the last 7 years. The idea behind his work is that person wearing his clothes must have smile on the face, as he believe that life is beautiful and he designs clothes with this idea in his mind. According to him look good begins with feeling good and if one's feels good then it easy to convince people that one's look good. Wearing dresses to impress people is a fashion blunder according to him and one should dress in which he or she believes in. he was told by international media that he could use yellow, blue, green, orange pink all in a one garment that might still look mincing. He was taken seriously by the International media. He rose to popularity with his brilliant colour combinations and the way in which he uses Indian craftsmanship and techniques. According to him collaboration is the best way to reach people who may just not be in fashion and for him it started with Reebok, Swatch to Nivea, Nespresso or Portico bed sheets or Amrapali jewelry. All these inspire him to move ahead with many more collaborations in the future. Circus was his third or fourth shows in Paris which put him on everybody's websites and magazines because of the carrusel dress that moves and rotates and this dress was chosen by Katy Perry and she wore it for MTV Awards. He received lot of help from Myntra because it is the most well connected fashion website in the country. So with their help and with Biba joint venture he thinks he is going to reach Indian in every nook and corner of the country. Indian models display colourful sarees at a fashion event in Delhi. India is a country with an ancient clothing design tradition, yet an emerging fashion industry. Though a handful of designers existed prior to the 1980s, the late 80s and the 1990s saw a spurt of growth. This was the result of increasing exposure to global fashion and the economic boom after the economic liberalization of the Indian economy in 1990. The following decades firmly established fashion as an the industry, across India. Delhi and Mumbai are important centres of fashion designing and manufacture in India, followed by Lucknow, Kolkata, Bangalore and other large cities.
