Fashion industry thrives in Iran

02:47
Iranian designers fuse international and European fashion with traditional Iranian styles, breathing new life into Islamic fashion in Iran. At a rare official fashion show in the country's capital, Tehran, designers took the opportunity to display some colourful and vibrant Islamic costumes which are not only in line with Islamic codes, but also current fashion trends. While not exactly trying to put the chic into chador, Iranian fashion designer Haniyeh Abedi believes that the strict Islamic dress code requiring women to be covered from head to toe does not mean they cannot look good.

Paper Dress - Zimya Productions

00:56
Zimya Productions presents... the CROATIAN PAPER DRESS (our dress is the one with the puppy)! Designed by our own designer, Lukas Volk. Held at the Miami Convention Center, the "Fashion Of Paper" fashion show displayed the work of 15 designers. These designers were given a country and (literally) a box of paper and had to design and produce a dress from the country designated. Congrats to Lukas and the other great designers!

Allow me to share this avp that I made for an event presented by Zugbuana JCI here in Cebu, Philippines, called Women for Women. It was a fashion show featuring Cebu's finest women wearing the creations of the country's top fashion designers. The beneficiary was our group, The Kahayag Network of Cancer Support Groups. This avp, which was shown before the fashion show started, tells us about the journey of a cancer survivor. It is intended to reduce fear, instill Hope, touch the Heart and lift the Spirit.

Erte (clip)

01:33
Art Deco was perhaps the most important design movement of the Twentieth Century, and Romain de Tirtoff, better known as Erte, was an artist who contributed so much to its development. Narrated by Diana Vreeland, this is a portrait of the gifted and prolific Erte, who influenced a broad range of design for more than 85 years. The career of this elegant, energetic artist spans the century and the continents, beginning with his association in 1912 with Paul Poiret, king of Paris couture. Later, Erte worked with Harper's Bazaar, providing the magazine with its monthly covers, as well as dress, shoe, jewelry and interior designs. In the 1920s, he designed for the Folies Bergere and the Paris Opera, and also for the Ziegfeld Follies and Irving Berlin's Music Box Revue in America. For MGM in Hollywood, Erte designed sets and costumes, working with some of the great beauties of the period, including Carmel Myers who came out of retirement to appear in this film. The narrator, Vreeland, is the former editor of Harper's Bazaar and Vogue. Produced and directed by Tony Ryan. 28 minutes, color. direct link to purchase video: http://phoenixlearninggroup.com/product/erte/ http://phoenixlearninggroup.com

Art Photo Expo Miami Beach

00:41
This prestigious group of international photographers has never before shown their collections together, under one roof, and the exhibition is considered to be the first of its kind in the country. Miami Beach Art Photo Expo, the visionary team of producers for In Fashion '07, has formed an exclusive partnership with internationally acclaimed icon Marion de Beaupré, an undisputed European authority in fashion photography for more than 25 years. As the curator for the inaugural exhibition, De Beaupré has hand-picked 20 of the world's most famous and emerging fashion photographers, whose personalities and work have been chosen as a true representation of the future of fashion photography today. In Fashion '07 is highly anticipated to become a major attraction during Art Basel and ultimately help to position Miami Beach as a capital of fashion photography in the United States. "In the 1980's, a new generation of photographers revolutionized fashion photography," says Marion de Beaupré. "A new approach was established from a long tradition of glamour. Among many talents, I have selected the artists that most represent this movement. Working for the fashion industry, a genre that continuously reinvents itself, these photographers have become the icons of a new popular culture. Through their creativity, they incarnate multiple emerging currents. Today, fashion photography is more than a lifestyle, it is a mirror of actuality. It generates inspiration from cinema, music and the art world." The historic grounds of the Surfcomber Hotel will be completely transformed by Miami Beach Art Photo Expo. An elaborate 60-foot-high, 30,000-square-foot structure will cover the grounds of the property and pool area. The aim of In Fashion '07 is to project a new look on fashion photography, by presenting strong and original images from upcoming talent along with images from the pioneers of fashion photography who are still considered today's undisputed leaders. Each signed photograph from the collection -- the works individually valued between $5,000 and $40,000 -- will be available for purchase throughout the duration of the exhibit. Entrance to In Fashion '07 will cost $10 and will be free for college students with a student ID. For further information, call 305.407.2855 or visit www.artphotoexpo.com

Puls TV, Gothic Lolita

04:10
Lolitas in Austrian TV Narrator (female): Attention! Now it gets super-kawaii, also known as sugar sweet and sugar pink! Metro was at the Gothic Lolita meet-up in the Museumsquartier. Lolita fashion comes from the Japanese youth culture and it's inspired from ancient children's clothing and excess of cuteness of rococo. Be prepared for a flood of frills, ribbons, curls and socks. Narrator (male): Cuteness as principle of fashion. The gothic lolita meet-up combines 2 times in the year the followers of the "frills-culture" in Vienna. This time they met at the Boutique Gegenalltag where a Lolita exhibition came to an end Duplica: Typical for lolita are the knee-length skirts, which are bulky because of the petticoat.. Princess_pipi: You can definitely see the influences of rococo and Victorian age Sery_chan: Ribbons, lace.. Duplica: then everything is high-necked, puffed sleeves, knee-high stockings, platform shoes.. Narrator (male): The lolita style has its roots in the Japanese nostalgia in reference to European history. For the fans in the meet-up it's primarily an own attitude of life. Princess_pipi: Also the attitude belongs to it: To bring beauty into the world and to banish the sad everyday life Natsumiy: Then it's an own way of life and you feel just more beautiful in such clothing. Duplica: but I often think that it's also an anti-movement against the actual youth' clothing, perhaps you can interpret it in this way. Narrator (male): In Tokyo lolitas, who are in the stronghold of Japanese streetfashion Harajuku district, are an attraction for tourists. Mainstream pop-acts like Gwen Stefani decorate their videos with extras in Harajuku look. In this country the people aren't familiar with this Japanese style, which can be separated in country lolita, punk lolita, classic lolita or gothic lolita. Natsumiy: It's clear that people stare at us, because it's not common, especially not here in Austria. Random Guy 1: I cannot classify it. I would better understand it, if you would explain it to me. Random Guy 2: well..my first impression was it could be an art action.. but who knows? Narrator (Male): But it looks like that the imperial-nostalgic Austrians definitely are ready to get used with old-fashioned-new look. Princess_pipi: In contrast to Germany, where I live, where I get very rude comments sometimes, the people in Austria are very nice and ask and are interested in it. Sery_chan: Often the people are very friendly, approach to us, ask us what we're wearing. Of course we explain everybody what he/she wants to know. We also took pictures with everybody. Narrator (male): There is one thing, they often have to explain: They don't play carnival, because in contrast to other Japanese youth cultures like the costume trend of cosplay, lolitas accent that their clothing is no costume. Duplica: If we're wild, we're not getting sweet and shy suddenly just because we're wearing a dress. It's not like this. It's not a costume, we're ourselves if we wear these dresses. Narrator (male): That somebody is looking for self-realisation in the doll-look isn't easy to comprehend. But why should it be easier in normal clothing? Narrator (female): One of the most popular webshops for lolita fashion is Baby the stars shine Bright, a Japanese cult label. You can find it at www.babytssb.co.jp for enjoying and buying.
