Woman Repels Three Burglars in Atlanta, Kills One

01:43
A woman recalled the tense moments in which she repelled three armed burglars on a mid-September night in suburban Atlanta during an exclusive interview with China Central Television on Tuesday. Chen Fengzhu, a Chinese-American running a seafood market in Atlanta, opened fire on three burglars and killed one. Surveillance video shows three armed men breaking into a home on 3500 Spring Drive in Gwinnett County, Georgia in the early hours of Sept. 16. Two of them were in separate rooms when Chen woke to strange noises inside the house. She grabbed her handgun and went to investigate, after encountering the three thieves she opened fire. "I didn't have any choice so I had to take out the gun I'd hid there. Then I loaded my pistol and walked out of my bedroom. I shot at the burglars when I saw them. One of them fled quickly, and another one ran away from the front door. Then I shot again, the one inside my home also broke the glass on the back door and ran away," said Chen. The three returned fire and attempted to flee the scene. On their way out, Chen shot one of the burglars and killed him. "First I chose to call 911. I called on the phone while I took out the pistol. But my phone call couldn't get through. So I had to open fire on them while calling 911," said Chen. Local police arrived at the scene after Chen's neighbor called the police. "Police took off the burglar's clothes and attempted to resuscitate him for about 15 to 20 minutes, and then they told me they had failed to save him," said Chen. Chen was acquitted as her action was justifiable defense, police said. Chen's home still bears the marks of the burglary. Her family has begun to repair the bullet holes in the walls, replace the doors and fit reinforced windows to ensure another incident like this doesn't happen again. Young Man Catches Woman Falling from 11th floor with Bare Hands

02:01
A young man caught a woman falling from a building's 11th floor with bare hands on Wednesday in Enshi City in central China's Hubei Province. The surveillance video footage showed Feng Ning running in front of the building at around 21:45. He kept changing his position while looking up to the building; seconds later, the woman fell right into his arms. Due to the huge impact, Feng was immediately knocked down on the ground and was carried to one side of the street by the locals. Feng said he was walking out of a restaurant when he heard someone crying for help from the nearby residential building. He then saw a woman hanging from the 11th floor window. "I ran to the building, but she had already fallen before I could reach the entrance. So I got ready to catch her instead. I don't know what happened next," said Feng. "There was a loud noise, as if it was an earthquake. Then I heard the young man screaming in pain," said a local witness. "The young man cried and cried while sweating badly. He looked as if he was in a great pain," said another witness. Feng was sent to the hospital, but the woman did not survive unfortunately. "Feng suffered injuries on his knee joints, and had a tibial plateau fracture. His anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments and the medial ligament have been dislocated," said Li Yanbing, doctor of spinal surgery department, Enshi Central Hospital. Feng joined the army as a college student in 2013. He retired in September after full service. He said his first reaction was saving the woman's life without considering whether he would be injured. "I don't regret. It's a shame that I couldn't save her," said Feng. Usain Bolt Receives Gift from Cameraman Who Crashed into Him

02:11
Sprinter Usain Bolt, who triumphed in the men's 200m at 2015 IAAF World Championships, received a gift on Friday from the Chinese cameramen who accidentally crashed into the runner following Thursday's race in Beijing. Bolt was knocked over by the cameraman on an electric scooter when he was celebrating completing the World Championship sprint double on Thursday evening. “I was following Bolt and staring at the camera lens' viewfinder. So I didn’t notice there was a track there for another camera. The self-balancing scooter lost balance and turned over after its left wheel rolled on the track. The first thing I saw first was that the scooter hit Bolt,” recalled Song Tao, the cameraman. Song sent a red bracelet, a good-luck charm, to Bolt and placed it on the champion’s wrist by way of apology after the award ceremony on Friday night. The world champion said at a news briefing afterwards that he was not hurt in the bizarre accident, even making a joke out of it. “He said sorry as much as he could. But I checked to make sure if he was okay because I think he got the worst of it because he was off-balance falling backwards. I'm not sure if he hit his head but I'm just happy that he's okay. I'm fine so it's all fun,” he said. “The rumor I'm trying to start right now is that Justin Gatlin paid him off, so that's what I'm going with. But I'm all right so it's all good." Song returned to work at the championships on Friday, saying he was also uninjured. “My first thought was that, no matter what, please do not let Bolt be injured due to this. I was worried and did not feel relieved until the news briefing was over, when he said he was alright,”Song said. Some Internet users joked that the cameraman was the only man capable of taking down Bolt, who has won all but one world and Olympic individual sprint titles since 2008. Veteran Arrives in China after 54-year Wait in India

02:04
Wang Qi, a Chinese veteran who spent 54 years trapped in India, arrived in China on Saturday along with some of his family members. Wang arrived in Beijing at around 11:30 after taking a flight from the Indian capital New Delhi. He was greeted by officials from the Chinese Foreign Ministry and one of his nephews. The 78-year-old will head to his hometown of Xianyang, in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, where his relatives are awaiting his return. Prior to arriving in Beijing, Wang spoke excitedly about returning home. "After returning to Xianyang, I will meet with my brothers and sisters as well as other relatives and friends. I will also see my comrades in arms and classmates in school days. I guess they will be very happy. So will I. After 54 years, I can finally return home and see my friends from my childhood. I am so happy," said Wang. In 1963, the Chinese army surveyor crossed into India and was captured after being caught by the Indian Red Cross Society and handed over to the Indian Army in Assam. Wang Qi has not been able to leave India ever since. Until now, it is still unclear under what circumstances he was taken into custody by the Indian authorities and whether he was a prisoner of war, but it is believed he was not carrying any form of identification. After years of adapting to a new culture, lifestyle and language, Wang eventually married a local Indian woman in 1978. He longed to go home and often cried himself to sleep. Wang repeatedly applied to return to China since 1977, but never received a reply from the related Indian departments. In 2002, he finally contacted his mother on the phone for the first time in 40 years. Unfortunately he never got to meet her again as she passed away in 2006. Slowly he got in touch with his family in China. His nephew visited him as a tourist in 2009 and it was he who helped him get the necessary documents for his passport after half a century of trying. Wang finally secured a Chinese passport from the embassy in 2013 and has since then been receiving financial aid from the embassy. It is unknown whether Wang and his family will return to India after their visit. Amazing! Things that Happen Only in Extremely Cold Weather

01:30
Interesting things were observed lately in the extremely low temperature in north China. Hot water instantly turned into icy fog when thrown into the outdoor air of minus 39 degrees Celsius. A soap bubble could turn "white" and crack in seconds. Everyone knows pears are for eating. However, no one wanted to have a bite when they became deadly frozen. Instead, people would make use of them as round-looking hammers. Once put up to a metal door, a wet pigskin would be frozen as one with the door and made it really hard to peel it off. Even for penguins which are birds born for cold weather, it was too much lately as the cute birds were seen shivering in spite of themselves. I Once Hoped that I Could Be Second Bruce Lee: Donnie Yen

01:54
I once hoped I could be the second Bruce Lee one day, said Donnie Yen in an interview with China Central Television (CCTV) on Sunday. Yen, a Hong Kong star, cultivated his interest in the martial arts when he was little with the help of his mother. "My mother forced me to practice Chinese martial arts in the beginning when I started to like it. She woke up at 05:00 or 06:00, dragged me out of my bed and made me practice martial arts. I went to school after practice. I gradually found myself gifted at and adept in martial arts. You know kids. When they discover they have some talent in a certain area, they would like to spend a lot of time on it. I felt I was quite good at martial arts. I worshipped Bruce Lee then and hoped I could be the second Bruce Lee one day,” said Yen. After spending two decades in the film industry, Yen had his international breakout role in Ip Man, a movie based on the master of the Wing Chun form of martial arts and one of Bruce Lee's teachers. "I became popular after more than 20 years of acting in movies. I couldn't have achieved what I have now without this time period. Without the experience, I may have not been able to play Ip Man (the grandmaster of the Chinese martial art Wing Chun) with such a flavor. So, I always tell the media that acting in movies is to reflect characters through their life experiences,” said Yen. He made his debut at CCTV's 2016 Spring Festival Gala with a martial arts performance. Yen is a Hong Kong actor, martial artist, film director and producer. Unearthed 2,000-Year-Old Sword Still in Mint Condition

02:08
Archeologists in central China's Henan Province recently discovered an over 2,000-year-old sword that was still glittering in mint condition when being unearthed. The sword was found in a coffin which was excavated in mid-December 2016 from a tomb in the ancient Chengyang City Archaeological Site Park in today's Xinyang City of Henan. The tomb dates back to the Warring States Period (475 BC-221 BC). Archeologists then transferred the well-preserved coffin to a museum of the archaeological site and found the sword next to a human skeleton in the coffin. According to the preliminary judgments of the archeologists, the 47-cm-long sword was made of bronze and belonged to a senior official in the Warring States Period. The ancient city of Chengyang was built over 2,700 years ago. Chinese Teams Join Cave Rescue Operation for Missing Footballers in Thailand

01:50
Two Chinese teams have joined the search and rescue operation for the 12 teenage footballers and their coach, who went missing on June 23 in a cave in northern Thailand. The frantic rescue operation entered the eighth day on Saturday at the sprawling Tham Luang Nang Non cave in which 12 boys, aged between 11 and 16, and their 25-year-old coach were trapped by flooding and became unaccounted for. More pipes have been installed to pump water out of the cave entrance, so that the rescuers can go down the cave and search for the missing team. Even though the Chinese team has brought all the necessary equipment, including underwater drone, diving gears and 3D imager, divers said the operation is still challenging. Although it has been more than a week, experts are still hoping all those missing remain alive. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20180701/8084362.shtml#!language=1 Welcome to subscribe us on: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/cctvnewscontent/ Video on Demand: www.cctvplus.com If you are in demand of this video footage, please contact with our business development team via email: [email protected]

Robotic Cats Effective for Elders at Nursing Home

02:05
One experiment which introduced life-like robotic cats to a nursing home in New York recently concluded that the mechanical felines are effective for soothing elders. As a new addition to the Hebrew Home at Riverdale in the Bronx, the robotic cats became an instant hit among the residents there, especially for those struggling with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Though the cats are not real, they still bring joy to the residents, according to Mary Farkas, director of therapeutic activities at the Hebrew Home. "I think some residents in some moments do know, and some residents in other moments don't know. And the truth is that it doesn't really matter. As long as they're experiencing joy and dignity, we follow their journey wherever it takes them and we support the journey wherever it goes," she said. The Hebrew Home’s parent company, RiverSpring Health sees the robotic cats as an important supplement to its live pet therapy program, not a replacement. "The live animals go home at the end of the day. But for the residents who live and suffer with Alzheimers disease, sometimes it's the evening and nights that create the most distress. And the robotic cats are available to our staff and to our residents all through the night and on the weekends when some of our pets are not here," said Daniel Reingold, president and CEO of RiverSpring Health. Hebrew Home currently has 34 robotic cats, and has ordered an additional 16. "She's a very very good cat. No trouble at all since I got her. Nothing. She's just wonderful," said Jeanette Rotanz, a resident at Hebrew Home. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20170107/8040316.shtml#!language=1 Subscribe us on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CCTVPlus CCTV+ official website: http://www.cctvplus.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus

3-year-old Boy Rescued From Well in East China City

02:00
A three-year-old boy has recently been rescued from a pump well in Weifang city of east China's Shandong Province. The boy fell into a 90-meter-deep well while playing around it on March 31. Firefighters arriving on the site found it unable to rescue the boy by going down the well, as the well was about 90 meters deep, with the mouth measuring only about 30 centimeters. They then tried to inject oxygen into the well and used a life detector to pinpoint the position of the boy.It was found that the boy was stuck at a place 11.8 meters down the well. The rescuers asked the family members of the boy to comfort the boy while preparing ropes.. The rescuers then let down a rope with a loop at end. But they found it hard to lasso the boy, who was stuck with only one arm up. Rescuers told the boy to put his hand into the loop of the rope. After many attempts, they managed to tie the boy's right wrist and arm. The boy was in the end lifted up after more than two hours. He was confirmed fine after a checkup in a hospital. Miss Uganda Pageant: "Beauty is Far More Shan Skin-Deep"

02:30
Twenty one contestants are preparing for the finale of the Miss Uganda pageant and one of them is a very special competitor determined to prove that beauty is far more than skin-deep. Nine years ago, 20-year old Aisha Nabukera was scalded with burning paraffin by her step mother. But the scars are not stopping her from pursuing her dream. "Seriously, I don't know what I should tell them. But they have to know that I am a grown up woman, a beautiful, confident woman right now and they should give me the support because what happened to me can happen to any other child, their own children, and so they should stop saying negative things. I know I can't stop people from talking. As long as I know what I want," said Nabukera Her rivals for the crown have lent their support. "Those scars are there, they will not go away. The more she gets used to them, the more she puts it out there. The more you talk about your problems, the more you forget about them. But if she sits back and keeps on thinking about what happened to her, it will affect her the more. But coming out gives her the strength," said Diana Nabimanya, a participant. There has been criticism about her participation. Several people took to social media with comments, saying she won't even be among the top five, another said she would bet a million dollars if at all she won. The comments went on and on. However organizers say, she has what it takes to compete. "That beauty also has to come from within and shine out. It’s not just that(shows her face) because if it’s just that( again touches her face), we can stand on the streets of Kampala. There are so many beautiful gorgeous girls and we are not looking for a video-vixen or a pinup girl and someone just looks nice pin up somewhere in the world and she can't even handle an interview," said Brenda Nannyonjo, organizer of the Miss Unganda Pageant. Nabukera is among the 21 finalists. She intends to use this platform to address issues of child abuse. "Many children out there have gone through child abuse, have been abused, have been tortured. They are not coming out, of all those kids out there. Of all those kids out there, I am the only one who came out and I stood for Miss Uganda to just fight against it."said Nabukera. Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan entertained visiting U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump with a Peking Opera performance at the Forbidden City, or the Palace Museum, on Wednesday afternoon. Trump arrived in Beijing Wednesday afternoon for his first state visit to China since he assumed the presidency in January. The performance was staged at the Belvedere of Pleasant Sounds, the largest opera theater in the Forbidden City, initially built during the reign of Emperor Qian Long (1736-1795) in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) to entertain the imperial family. With a history of more than 200 years, Peking Opera is one of China's main traditional drama forms and on the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list. The art combines instrumental music, vocal performance, mime, dance and acrobatics. The presidents and their wives took in pieces from three classic plays, namely Spring Seedlings in the Pear Garden, Monkey King, and The Drunken Beauty. Before watching the performance, the presidents and their wives visited the conservation workshop at the Palace Museum. They attended an exhibition of antiques and watched the repair of some historical relics at the museum's conservation workshop, known as "the antiques hospital." The guests were also invited to experience a Chinese painting being mounted on a scroll. The workshop is the largest cultural heritage conservation center in China. It uses traditional techniques but is equipped with advanced technology. The presidents made positive comments on the deep cooperation in antiques restoration between the two countries. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20171108/8065752.shtml#!language=1 Subscribe us on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CCTVPlus CCTV+ official website: http://www.cctvplus.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus

Chinese Veteran Returns Home From India after 54 year Wait

01:34
An 80-year-old Chinese veteran, who has been trapped in India for 54 years, has returned to his motherland on Saturday morning. Wang Qi, with his three family members, arrived in Beijing, the Chinese capital at around 11:30 Saturday after several hours of flight from New Delhi at 05:00. Then he will return to his hometown in northwest China's Shaanxi Province. Wang and his families reached New Delhi and went through the related formalities and obtained their exit permits from the Indian Foreign Ministry on Friday. Then they came to the Chinese embassy in India, expressing their thanks to Chinese embassy personnel. Wang joined the Chinese People's Liberation army in 1960 and was dispatched to China-India border in 1963 during the Sino-Indian war. He got lost in December of that year in a forest near his camp and was then taken to India by an Indian Red Cross vehicle. He was later handed over to the Indian army and spent seven years in prison. After being released, Wang was sent to a remote village named Tirodi in India's central state of Madhya Pradesh and started a life there. He married a local woman and the couple raised four children. The veteran had repeatedly applied to the Indian government to go back to China over the last few decades but he had been denied official Indian documents and citizenship time and again. His story was reported by media last month and instantly triggered calls for him to be repatriated. Luo Zhaohui, Chinese ambassador to India, said "the cooperation, support from the Indian side, and their unique way to handle the special case really help a lot." Chinese President Xi Arrives in Bangladesh for State Visit

03:53
Chinese President Xi Jinping Friday arrived in Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, for a state visit, the first by a Chinese head of state in 30 years to this South Asian nation. Xi was received by his Bangladeshi counterpart, Abdul Hamid, and given a 21-gun salute at the airport. The host country dispatched fighter jets to escort Xi's plane after it entered Bangladesh's airspace. Speaking highly of the long-standing traditional friendship between his country and Bangladesh, Xi said upon arrival that China attaches great importance to relations with Bangladesh and is ready to join hands with the country to lift their bilateral relations and practical cooperation to a higher level. The friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Bangladesh not only serve the interests of both countries and peoples, but also have made positive contributions to peace, stability and development of the region as a whole, he said. During the visit, Xi will meet with Hamid and National Assembly Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, and hold talks with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. China and Bangladesh, both being populous developing countries, have maintained a sound relationship since they established diplomatic ties in 1975. In 2010, Xi paid an official visit to the nation as vice president. Though listed as one of the world's least developed countries, Bangladesh has been witnessing robust economic growth over recent years and boasts tremendous market potential with a population of about 160 million. Two-way trade between China and Bangladesh reached 14.7 billion U.S. dollars in 2015, up 17 percent year-on-year. China is currently Bangladesh's largest trading partner, while Bangladesh is the third largest of China in South Asia. Bangladesh is the second leg of Xi's visit, which already took him to Cambodia. He will also travel to the western Indian state of Goa for a summit of the emerging-market bloc of BRICS, which groups Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. China's Cliff Top Village Has Brighter Future after Installing Steel Stairs

02:38
The future of a village atop a cliff is looking brighter for its residents after local authorities installed steel ladders last year for a safer climb. In a remote part of southwest China's Sichuan Province, the village of Atuleer in Zhaojue County garnered fame after pictures surfaced showing the 800-meter ascent schoolchildren and the other villagers had to make to reach it. They had to risk their lives every day as they made the trek without any safety support. However, their lives changed last August, when the local government raised one million yuan to build a set of steel stairs into the face of the cliff, replacing the bamboo ladder. The stairs are wide enough for two people to pass at the same time. Residents seem optimistic about the improved transport infrastructure in changing their isolated and impoverished village. "Before, it was dangerous. Now we have the stairs, so we are all relieved, the old and the young. The journey is safer and we are confident in shaking off poverty," said a villager, who, along with the others, belongs to the Yi ethnic minority. The local government notes that many people are interested in the unique scenery and folk culture of the cliff-top village, and have already begun implementing measures to promote tourism. "This year, my goal is to have pigs, sheep and chickens. And I also plan to plant oval oranges. I will have 100 oval orange trees and I can sell them to tourists. I can earn at least 20,000 yuan a year. This is my goal after we have tourists," said another villager. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20170208/8042619.shtml#!language=1 Subscribe us on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CCTVPlus CCTV+ official website: http://www.cctvplus.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus

Chubby Siberian Tigers Hunt Electronic Bird of Prey

01:33
What happens when you combine ferocious Siberian tigers with modern technology? Bouncing, pouncing, and even a bit of trouncing. Video footage of a habitat for these rare felines in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province shows them meandering about until they catch sight of a reporter's drone used to film with a camera buzzing around. The chubby tigers played cat and mouse with the drone until a two or three-year-old tiger swiped at the camera, a large paw filling its screen before losing signal. The group proceeded to tear the drone apart, with one literally chewing on the gadget as if it was a bird of prey. Unlike a bird, the drone started to give off smoke, which scared off the surrounding tigers. Staff members of the park in a well-protected vehicle then went to pick up the remains of the drone. Don't worry. Although they seem overweight, Liu Dan, chief engineer with the Siberian Tiger Park, said they weigh within their normal range. The park increased the tigers' food intake to keep out the cold in winter. It won't be as necessary to feed them as much during spring as it is in winter. Experts predict that they will once again be lean in about two months. World First Autonomous Dental Implant Robot Put into Use in China

01:52
World first autonomous dental implant robot was put into use in a operation on Saturday in Xi'an City, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province. The robot was completely developed by China and adopted the ingenious mechanical space fusion positioning method, which can not only improve the accuracy of operation but integrate with 3D printing technology to achieve immediate repair of denture. Before operation, patient needs to take a CT (computed tomography) scan to acquire all the data of the patient's skull and jaw, and then the data are stored through a special marking system, so that the robot arm can identify the corresponding location precisely in the non-open space and finish the dental implant surgery. During the operation, the robot arm got into the patient's mouth following the pre-set motion path. After locating the exact position absent of tooth, the robot arm installed the implant into the cavity. It took the robot less than an hour to install two implants into the patient's cavities. "The operation ran very smoothly. The biggest advantage of the robot is high precision with a error of 0.2 to 0.3 millimeters, which is much more precise than manual operation," said Zhao Yimin, professor in the Fourth Military Medical University. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20170918/8061345.shtml#!language=1 Subscribe us on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CCTVPlus CCTV+ official website: http://www.cctvplus.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus

Twin Panda Cubs Celebrate First Birthday at Toronto Zoo

02:57
It was party time on Thursday for Chinese giant panda cubs Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue as they celebrated their first birthday at the Toronto Zoo. Zoologists and officials from both countries attended the celebration. In accordance with the Chinese custom for one-year-old babies, the zoo arranged four boxes with four Chinese characters "Lu (money)," "Fu (happines)," "Shou (life)," and "Zhuzi (bamboo)" on each box to let the cubs to choose one. When both of them got into the box of "bamboo" at the same time, onlookers at the party burst into laughter. According to the bilateral agreement, both Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue will return to China in four years. "The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has abundant experience. Shortly after the pandas (parents of the twins) came here, we sent zoologists to Canada for more than half a year. As for the artificial breeding this time, Chinese zoologists have provided much support. Of course, it is the result of the bilateral cooperation," said Zheng Guangda, vice president of the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens. "We've had significant support from the Chinese Association of Zoological Gardens, the Chengdu Research Center and Chongqing Zoo. When we started into the breeding program, we went into an artificial insemination breeding. And we were the first zoo outside of China to use artificial insemination with frozen sperm that was transported from China for the purpose of breeding our female, Er Shun. As you can see today, it's all been successful, one year of lovely cubs with us. So it's been very successful. And also this is very important for the species preservation for not just pandas but for all species. We're assisting in the cooperative research in China. So we're assisting with funding of major programs in conservation for panda habitat, panda education and panda breeding in China," said Robin Hale, chief operating officer of the Toronto Zoo. Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue were delivered by the female giant panda Er Shun from China on Oct. 13, 2015 in Toronto. As they were born on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, the twins have been regarded as the symbol of Sino-Canadian friendship. Muslims in northwest China Celebrate Eid Al-Fitr Festival

02:11
Muslims across northwest China on Wednesday celebrated their traditional Eid Al-Fitr Festival that marks the official end of the Holy month of Ramadan. In Kashi City of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, more than 30,000 Muslims gathered at the Id Kah Mosque in the morning for the last prayer of Ramadan. As a worldwide tradition, the Muslims sat shoulder by shoulder in an open area and gave their thanks to Allah. Following the prayer was the first daylight meal in a month – a ritual observed with joy after a month of austerity. Streets in Kashi were bustling once again as restaurants reopened, and the feasting began with Sama dance - a Uyghur folk dance people performed when praying for fruitful hunting and good harvest in ancient times and now also a must-do for the holiday celebration. "I've put on new clothes. Later on I'm meeting with friends and other family members," said Ishan Haji, a local resident in Kashi. "I don't feel tired at all (after dancing). It has been a great day for me," said Muhammad Nijat, another Kashi resident. In Qinghai Province -- home to nearly 1.1 million Muslims, a prayer was held at the Dongguan Great Mosque in the capital city of Xining on Wednesday morning, attended by 150,000 people. In Wuzhong City of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, another compact Muslim community, local people started celebration early Wednesday morning. Residents gathered together with their families and friends for their first daytime meal after the Ramadan. In Gansu Province, Muslims also prayed for better life and held various activities to celebrate the religious festival. Endangered Leopard Mothered by Retriever, Accompanied by Lion, Tiger and Shepherd Dog

02:49
Cross-fostering is not that uncommon among animals. Yet a golden retriever mothering an Amur leopard cub is somewhat unusual, in that this species of Far-Eastern leopards is critically endangered and only 19 to 26 Amur leopards live in the wild of the Russian Far East. Zoo keepers in Vladivostok had to separate a newborn cub from her cross-tempered mom due to concerns about her own safety and put the cub into the care of the retriever named Tessa. "We decided to take the [cub] only because her mother - leopardess Alain - has eaten the previous three litters of her cubs. We can't say for sure why this happened. But we decided not to risk another baby," said Viktor Agafonov, a veterinarian at the Vladivostok Zoo. Tessa, the foster mom, already has four puppies of her own but can still accommodate one more strange-looking puppy for her care, caress and milk. Zoo keepers also pooled in their efforts onto raising up the Amur leopard cub. They give her formula milk and glucose and other necessary additional ingredients. In three weeks, the cub has doubled in weight and length and is already starting to try and feed on rabbit meat for a special treat. As the cub has soon outgrown the other retriever puppies, zoo keepers had to find her some companions to socialize and play with. The zoo readily found and locked on two other growing cubs of the Big Cat. One is a lioness and the other a tigress. Both are two and a half months old and are of similar size as the Amur leopard cub. "Although it seems these are both Big Cats, their behavior is completely different. The tigress is quieter. But the lioness (Astra), now she wants some sleep and even puts her head on me, but most of the time she keeps jogging and playing. She eats, sleeps, then repeats these actions, jogging, playing, eating again, and then sleeping," said Agafonov. For socialization, zoo keepers got the trio of cubs a junior Alabai or Central Asian shepherd dog which is strong and meek enough for the playful mini-Big Cats. "We decided that she should be kind and sociable to have a puppy friend. Well, she should also have the appropriate size and proper psyche. Here the Alabai shepherds are suitable for this. So we chose this dog, with a good pedigree, good blood," said Sergei Asnovin, the director of the Vladivostok Zoo. When moved from their closed dwelling to a spacious enclosure with a warm house, the cubs and their tutoring dog will forge a friendship which will last at least for one and a half years in that enclosure. Their cross-species friendship may last a lot longer, depending upon their socialization and play together. So here we can see and sense in the Vladivostok Zoo that cross-fostering is useful for preserving the life of rejected by parents or orphan infants, mainly for species with low reproduction rate in captivity or those threatened by extinction. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20171104/8065313.shtml#!language=1 Subscribe us on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/CCTVPlus CCTV+ official website: http://www.cctvplus.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/cctv-news-content Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewsContent.CCTVPLUS Twitter: https://twitter.com/CCTV_Plus

World's Largest Ship Elevator Opens at Three Gorges Dam in Central China

01:26
The world's largest ship elevator at the Three Gorges Dam opened in Yichang City, central China's Hubei Province, on Sunday, with a prospect to increase the shipping capacity past the dam by six million tons a year. The elevator, the existing largest lifting structure on a navigation route with the highest technical difficulty of the world, features large engineering scope, high lifting height and large weight lifting operation. The largest weight to be handled by the elevator is freighter of 3,000 DWT(deadweight ton) and the maximum vertical lifting height is 113 meters. The main components of the structure are four 169-meter high reinforced concrete towers. The chamber, a self-support orthotropic plate structure that is 120 meters long and 18 meters wide, works as a gigantic basin. Weighting around 15,500 tons, the elevator carries the ships upwards or downwards to pass the dam. A special safety mechanism, or a brake pad, is fixed. Four short screw sections connected to the ship chamber work as rotary locking rods. They rotary locking rods work continuously in an internal thread, or a nut post, that is fixed to the towers. If an accident occurs, this rotation is blocked and traction is achieved that supports the ship chamber independently. The elevator will cut journey times for passenger, cruise and small cargo ships passing through the dam from over three hours to about 40 minutes. Larger vessels still have to pass the dam by means of a two-lane, five-chamber lock chain like climbing stairs. "Large vessels walk the stairs, small ones take the elevator" to pass the Three Gorges Dam for some time to come. The elevator marks the completion of the Three Gorges Dam project on the Yangtze River, which aims at producing electricity, increasing the Yangtze River's shipping capacity and reducing the potential for floods downstream by providing flood storage space. Chinese President Arrives for State Visit to Zimbabwe

03:40
Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Harare on Tuesday for a state visit to Zimbabwe aimed at further cementing the traditional friendship between the two countries and charting the course for the future development of bilateral ties. The trip, which comes upon the 35th anniversary of the establishment of China-Zimbabwe diplomatic relations, is Xi's first to the African country and also the first state visit by a Chinese president to Zimbabwe since 1996. Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and his wife greeted Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan at the airport. Xi said he looks forward to having in-depth exchanges of views with Mugabe and friends from all sectors of the African country, with the purpose of enhancing the friendship between the two nations, seeking new opportunities for bilateral cooperation in all areas and delivering more benefits to the two peoples. During his stay in Harare, Xi will hold talks with Robert Mugabe, who is revered as an old friend of the Chinese people, and the two sides are expected to ink a series of cooperation deals covering such fields as infrastructure construction, investment, financing, culture and wildlife protection. Since the two countries established diplomatic relations on the very day of Zimbabwe's independence, bilateral ties have witnessed steady and fruitful development. China has become a major trading partner of Zimbabwe and its largest source of foreign investment. Two-way trade reached 1.24 billion U.S. dollars in 2014, marking a year-on-year increase of 12.7 percent. During Mugabe's state visit to China in August 2014, the two countries agreed to be good friends, good partners and good brothers that treat each other as equals, support each other and pursue win-win cooperation and common development. In April this year, the two leaders held a meeting in Jakarta on the sidelines of an Asian and African leaders' summit, and pledged to make concerted efforts to lift bilateral relations to higher levels. Xi flew to Harare from Paris, where he delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of a highly anticipated UN climate change conference. His ongoing three-nation trip will also take him to South Africa for a state visit and a summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. World's Largest Tidal Bore Forms in China's Qiantang River

02:06
Thousands of tourists gathered in Haining City of east China's Zhejiang Province to appreciate the world's largest tidal bore at the Qiantang River around the traditional Mid Autumn Festival holiday from Thursday to Saturday. The Qiantang River tidal bore is a world-renowned natural phenomenon known for its momentum and charm caused by the gravitational pull of the moon. The best time to view the tidal bore is between the 15th and 18th day of the eighth month on the Chinese lunar calendar, exactly the Mid-Autumn Festival. Due to the Typhoon Meranti and Malakas, the tidal bore this year is higher than those of previous years. The nine-meter-high and 650-meter-long Laoyancang Dam, 12 kilometers west of Guanxi Town, is a best site to view the majestic scene. Tide, galloping like horses, hits against the dam and retreats after rising in the air, creating one of the two eye-catching scenes of the tidal bore, namely "back-flow bore." The back-flow bore then hits the seawall with the water rising up to 15 meters high, which is another unique scene known as "soaring bore."
