Boy trades Xbox to buy mom a car
A 13-year-old boy says he was inspired by other acts of kindness when he traded his Xbox and offered to do yard work in exchange for a vehicle for his mom. Nevada teen William Preston told KOLO that he had to take it upon himself as the oldest boy in his family to help his struggling, single mother make ends meet. "I saw on YouTube where people get their mom a car and then surprise her with it," he said. "I wanted to do that." The young man found a 1999 white Chevrolet Metro on Facebook for sale. "It was really cheap, so I asked her if I could trade it for my Xbox or earn it, and at first she said no, and then she thought about it, and then she said yes," William recalled. The negotiation worked, and soon, he was able to tell his mom about his surprise. "Mom, I got you a car and she didn't believe me," William said. https://abc13.com/5230447/

Woman beats half-naked, 300-pound man with bat
It was early Sunday morning when 65-year-old Clarese Gainey heard a noise outside her apartment. As she looked out the window, she says she saw a man in his boxers pulling at her car door handle and knocking on the window, attempting to break in. Before calling police, she took matters into her own hands. "I grab my bat, I brace myself and I ease the door open," Gainey told WGFL. That's when police and Gainey say 5'6, 300 pound Antonio Mosely charged her. "I took that bat and hit him upside the head like 'pi-yah!' He said 'Ow!'" Police say Mosely ran to a nearby mobile home park, leaving behind his pants, shirt and a sock. https://abc13.com/woman-65-beats-half-naked-300-pound-man-with-bat/5255945/

The Oak Ridge Boys perform Amazing Grace at the funeral of President George H. W Bush in Houston, Texas. George H.W. Bush, who shaped history as 41st president and patriarch of a family that occupied the White House for a dozen years, will be laid to rest Thursday in College Station, alongside wife Barbara and daughter Robin. Before he is taken to his final resting place, an invite-only funeral service with about 1,200 guests will be held at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston at 10 a.m. CST. Tiger Found Abandoned in Vacant Houston Home
A tiger kept in an enclosure within a vacant home in southeast Houston had to be tranquilize before a wrecker pulled the animal away. ABC13 Eyewitness News was the first to learn Monday of the illegally housed animal on Avenue J just east of the East 610 Loop. Jason Alderete, of Houston police, told ABC13 that the department responded to a call to 311 from a concerned citizen who was at the home to smoke marijuana. "(We) asked to whether they were under the effects of the drugs or they actually saw a tiger," said Alderete. "They saw a tiger in this building." He added that the animal appeared to have been fed over time since there were empty meat packages discarded at the home. A wrecker was called to pull the tiger still in the cage. The animal was sedated with a tranquilized dart and loaded on a heavy-duty vehicle. https://abc13.com/5132909/

BODY CAM: Young Mother SUES after Marijuana Arrest - "He Pulled My Pants Down...I FROZE"
BODY CAM: Young Mother SUES after Arrest in Harris County, TX. Direct link: http://abc13.com/3425908/ A young wife and mother says she was r*ped by a jailer in the Harris County jail after a questionable arrest related to possession of a small amount of marijuana. Emma Lopez says her nightmare began on March 1 around 2 p.m. when she was driving home on Mason Road. A Katy ISD police officer pulled her over for speeding, just a few blocks from her home. In police bodycam video examined by Eyewitness News, you can hear Lopez being cooperative and polite during the stop. A few minutes into the stop, the officer asked her about marijuana. "The minute I stopped you, I could smell marijuana on your car," the officer said. At that point, the video shows Lopez explaining that she uses marijuana to control her seizures. She also points to the small grinder in the car, where a small amount of pot was inside. "I have seizures and I don't even smoke very much," she can be heard saying. But the officer alleged she was in a school zone, and the amount of pot was too much. "Unfortunately, you're going to jail today," the officer said to Lopez. It only got worse from there. SEARCH WARRANT: What police found inside alleged drug house
A tip that black tar heroin was being sold at a home in southeast Houston led police to raid the house, resulting in a deadly shootout. ABC13 has exclusively obtained the official results of the search warrant return, which details what was found after the deadly raid on Monday, Jan. 28. Nine narcotics detectives backed up by at least six patrol officers surrounded the home in the 7800 block of Harding Street just before 5 p.m. Dennis Tuttle, 59, and his wife Rhogena Nicholas, 58, were killed in a gun battle when officers tried to serve the warrant. According to the court documents, police recovered four guns, about 18 grams of marijuana and about 1.5 grams of an unknown white powder. The weapons included a Beretta shotgun, a Winchester rifle and a Remington shotgun and rifle, according to the report. Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said the officers "immediately came under fire" upon entering the home that afternoon. Four of the officers were shot and a fifth suffered a knee injury. According to the search warrant, police believed the occupants were selling heroin out of the home, based on a tip from a confidential informant. FULL WARRANT: https://abc13.com/5127653/

HPD RAID: Harris Co. district attorney review widens to 2000 cases
The Harris County District Attorney's Office has widened its investigation of cases related to Houston officers involved in a botched drug raid, from about 1,400 to more than 2,000 cases. The new expanded investigation adds at least 800 cases linked to Houston police Officer Steven Bryant, on top of the original 1,400 attributed to Officer Gerald Goines. Both Bryant and Goines were relieved of duty last month following the Jan. 28 raid of a home on Harding Street. Goines was the case officer for what was originally labeled a narcotics raid. A married couple died when their home was raided. The operation also resulted in injuries to five officers, including Goines. According to District Attorney Kim Ogg's office, about 30 of Bryant's cases are active and currently pending in court. "We have a duty to the people of Harris County to pursue justice in every instance, no matter how many cases this involves," Ogg said in a news release Monday. "We are going to thoroughly review each of these cases to ensure that the arrests and convictions were proper." When the district attorney's office announced a review of Goines' cases, about 27 of them were active. Over the last several weeks, ABC13 Eyewitness News has reported on a handful of the cases, with at least two being thrown out. https://abc13.com/5167174/
